interesting read.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/jan/10/naomi-klein-boycott-...

also in the guardian today is this article about the growing list of UK Jews who are calling on Israel to back down:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2009/jan/11/gaza-israel-letter-british-jews

i'm curious what the extremists on QL have to say about this.

Well, i like chatting with everybody and i admit that certain matters in public, not because i ain't courageous but because i know how sensible these matters are and when we type, we have more time to think and control our rage.

In public i'm always trying to be funny but i sux telling jokes :)

Like i have stated on other posts, i consider everybody my friend here, no matter how hard we may discuss here.

Saying this, can only add that i fully agree with Alexa and Abu

Indeed my friend, both of us are extremist in our own ways and views.

I think a more fitting term for such people is 'troll' rather than extremist. _____________________________________________________

i hear you. i know the ones in here are not the same as the real extremists out there. i used the term in reference to the way they conduct themselves in QL.

thanks for responding.

i agree with you - most of the spewed hatred is fluffy and many would not be so daring in real life.

BUT, i don't know these people in real life - i "know" them in QL. and some of the opinions expressed here are extreme, regardless of how much more extreme other sites may be.

i'm not saying that these people are dangerous or that i am expecting explosions, i'm just calling it like i see it with regards to what i am reading here.

if you can honestly say you have not seen any posts in QL that are extreme (hence from extremists) then i can only guess we are not reading the same posts.

i'm talking about the ones who think israel should be wiped off the map (and that any level of violence should be used to achieve this goal, regardless of how many innocent people are murdered). or the ones who think the palestinians do not deserve a homeland (and who think that any level of violence used by israel to achieve this is acceptable, regardless of how many innocent people are murdered).

i'm talking about the people who rightly condemn israel for bombing schools in gaza but don't assign any blame to hamas using schools in their struggle.

i'm talking about anyone who blames only one side for what is happening. in my case, i think what israel has been doing for years now is wrong, but i also think it is shameful for hamas to be using schools and putting children at risk.

it's pretty obvious to me.

did you read the articles? i would support sanctions against israel as advocated by Naomi Klein, and it seems more and more jews would agree with me. my reference in the original post was regarding those who seem to believe that all israelis or jews are supporting what israel is doing.

Abu, I am still unsure... who are the extremists supposed to be? Are they a certain religion? race? It doesnt make sense and assuming is a dangerous thing.

Actually I am not quite sure what the purpose of the forum question is. If all have united (even UK Jews) asking Israel to stand down, what do you think the extremists would comment? By extremists do you have any particular group in mind? Are you expecting a negative answer and that the extremist want the slaughter to continue, or are you expecting positive answers and everyone can now live in one big cuddly world together?

I dont get it.

maybe some of the extremists in QL will realize that not all westerners blindly accept whatever israel does. maybe they will see that many westerners support the palestinians having their own country.

1. a person who goes to extremes, esp. in political matters.

2. a supporter or advocate of extreme doctrines or practices.

–adjective 3. belonging or pertaining to extremists

Since I believe in the protection of defenseless women and children who committed no crimes and are being slaughtered, bombed, shot and burned and I pursue in the face of overwhelming evil in the world- PEACE I guess I am an extremism. It was the Jews that told us not to be silent in the face of a Holocaust this is exactly what we are doing. WE WILL NOT BE SILENT! Glad more countries are speaking out even though Israel doesn't care. I got this today its very interesting:

i don't really see how anyone can vouch for everyone on this site.

there are opinions expressed on QL which i find extreme, and i think many others find them extreme too. that is my opinion and it seems that QL is the place for that.

for me an extremist is not only someone who would resort to violence or bombings or killing innocent civilians. to me anyone who condones these things is an extremist as well.

Exactly.. This delaying is for Israel to complete its mission..

By the way, I think Fatah or the PLO will be brought back to the fold and will be the main representative of the palestinians in the future..

looks like everyone wants to do away with Hamas. Then may be something more dangerous would come up. Thats what everyones waiting for. Before Hamas, PLO was the bogey man with PFLP and some others. They have all bitten the dust and arose Hamas. NOw I bet there will be something more bad coming up which will be dangerous for ISrael as well as rest of the world for their ominous silence. DOnt tell me that the world powers are doing something ot resolve the situation but what they are doing is providing Israel the time to finish off Hamas which anyway will be a mirage

Perhaps Abu should invite Abu Izadeen or Anjem Choudhary from London to show what extremism is..

My son attended the gathering yesterday.. Ordinary people (including jews, christians and muslims) see that escalation of hostilities is not the answer. At the end of the day, negotiations and compromise are the answer.

Perhaps the Israeli government realises this as well and is making a last ditch effort to do away with / weaken Hamas in order to bring them to the negotiation table.
