Some 50,000 jobs will be created when all the three phases of the $14bn New Doha International Airport (NDIA) are complete, it was reported on Wednesday.

When fully operational, the airport’s annual passenger handling capacity will reach 50 million and large numbers of jobs will be created, a senior aviation official said.

In an interview with a Qatar Arabic daily - cited by The Peninsula - Abdul Aziz Al Nuaimi, chairman of the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCA), said: “Studies conducted by us reveal that when all the three phases of the NDIA are ready, 50,000 jobs will be created."

They are capable of 50k.

Check out Royal Plaza, they put a body with a tie (and no deodorant) in that small glass elevator to man the lift.

50,000 seems excessive. BAA (British Airports Authority) only employs around 20,000 in all its airports.

Just because it has the CAPACITY to handle this many passengers does not mean it will any time soon. Much of this infrastructure is to allow for later growth rather than addressing the pressing needs of the moment--i.e. evidence Qatar can handle the passenger demand associated with hosting events like the world cup.

It will be interesting to see the airport when it opens, though.

unlikely rise in rent,

if they did , there be a shortage of takers

out of the 50k workers the high paid ones ( senior position) will be subject to qatarisation so they don't rent ( have their own house )

the rest will be low paid workers who will be living / sharing low cost housing. many people in doha who were earning a reasonable salary are being terminated and being replaced by cheaper labour from elsewhere. so it means fewer people to pay the excessive rents
