New Funwalkers/FunJoggers Group at the Corniche. Anyone interested ?

Hi,

I noticed that there are many people who enjoy a good relaxing walk or jog at the Corniche. Hence, I thought it might be a good idea to start a group with the common interest to stay healthy. What do you think ?

I was thinking to start the first funwalk/fun jog on Thu 13 Dec at 5pm and end at 6pm. Starting point to be opposite HSBC building and the ending point to be opposite the park with the children playground. All suggestions welcomed on this. After each walk/jog, the group can then gather and chat over a paper cup of water at the end point.

Haven't thought of a good name so we can decide after we have our 1st or 2nd walk/jog. Do you have a catchy name in mind ?

In time to come, a T-shirt printed with the group's name on it would be ideal. If there is continued interest, we can even conduct sessions on Fri & Sat. Let's see.

Heard they had hailstones too ? They hurt you know. Plus it is slippery - kinda like walking across a room with marbles all over.

Last night i was at Corniche at abt 7 to 9pm - strong winds. Still, there were quite a number of people out having a walk n they were had their jackets and winter caps on.

anyone know a good place to get a decent haircut ?

Yes I was here last year and went every day to bed early so I could slip under the covers to keep warm. At Christmas dinner there were 20 of us in my appartment all huddled together with blankets trying to keep ourselves warm, it was bitter cold.

If it is Sat evening at 6pm, I can meet the 2 of u. Thurs evenings are out for me.

There's no stopping us to have several groups cos we all have our own different commitments.

Come to think of it, I think a common sports wristband for the group may be better cos maybe some of us would prefer to put on our comfortable exercise clothes to exercise instead of a grp t-shirt. Although a group t-shirt is easier to spot and creates awareness and interest for more to join in.

Hassan - I know of 2 others that prefer thurs. We'll let u know. Once we get to know who's who - I'm sure you will bump into the grp members at the Corniche during the week. That's one good reason to form the grp.

Good afternoon to you Canarybird. Most of us thinking of that too. I think if weather gets real cold, I'll probably not want to get out of the house at all. Nice to sleep in, you know. I heard last yr was butt freezin cold. No wonder this year, you see so many heaters in the shop.

Were you guys here last winter ?

Treysdad - let us know, ok ?

DennistheMenace - Good morning

I need the excercise badly and I am one of those people if I could drive my carinto my living room and get out there that would be the best lol.

owen - Good morning

I like to see these guys carrying ten-ton-tess(me) after that there would be no need for them to jog lol they would have complete a weight lifting session too lol.

Friday morn is a no-no for me, I'm afraid. Best times for me are Thursday & Saturday evenings.

Would owen and treysdad's group like to meet this Fri @ 5.30am mid-way (at the Doha Game Oryx) ? We can walk & talk about this.

Hassan, do come n we'll decide how often we will do this.

Canary, even 300 is ok. Some don't even walk except get out from their car and into the house or office. I'm sure in time to come it would be 3000m, :-) Come anyway. it's great weather now. We promise to be great company.

I like the orange juice part most. btw I know there is this Bye Bye Cafetaria near the souq area that sells great juices (large OJ at QR10) shakes and food. It's at the other end of Corniche though.

WalkyTalky.. that's a good one. I tend to forget the distance when I talk along the way.

I am far from being fit... I still have a lot of flabs to shed. :)

The Corniche is free for anybody so anybody can join in. Just remind us to speak in English if we start talking in Filipino. :)

King Edshel is a regular and also TCOM before he got so busy with work.

By the way KE and I push ourselves also with a punishing deliberate slow jog for 1000m on the return trip that keeps our heart pounding hard and our bodies sweat off the fat. You don't have to do it though.

mmm..is it open to non-filipino's? :P

We started a jog/walk session on our group (click on the logo below) last June and we are doing it at these times:

Thursdays: start time - between 6:00 and 6:30 pm (depending on what time I get out from the office)

Fridays and Saturdays - between 5:00 and 5:30 am

We walk from Sheraton to the front of the Diwan Amiri where the 4000m marker is and then back to Sheraton where we have our usual glass of fresh orange juice.

Hi there,

I would always try my best, but moving into the years of seniority and my knees not so good anymore I guess 300 metres would be enough. lol
