Nothing?

Nothing in the newspapers (that I have seen) or on QL regarding large number of redundancies (sacking?) at QFC.
Why is that?

to replace 1 floor of foreign employees with qatari employees they need to build at least one more floor..

besides, QFC is not a private sector..:)

Private sector should do more to achieve Qatarisation: official

By Nour Abuzant

A senior official at the Ministry of Labour yesterday said the Qatarisation drive was being implemented in full force in the public sector but said his department expected to see more tangible results in the private sector.

The expat workforce should be replaced by locals, but in a realistic manner and that too over a period of time, Nasser al-Rameel, assistant director of National Manpower Development department at the Ministry of Labour, said.

Speaking to Gulf Times on the sidelines of a press conference for Qatar Career Fare (QCF), al-Rameel said: “This policy cannot be implemented overnight but it is a process.”

He explained: “We believe our citizens can excel in jobs in the public and private sectors and we have gone a long way in this direction despite the difficulties.”

Asked about “difficulties”, the official said: “Most of our female citizens don’t like to work along with men and this can be attributed to our social norms and we have to respect that.”

As for men, the official said the main difficulty was that they keep switching jobs. “It is good to improve you career but the way it is done here is far from healthy.”

Al-Rameel said the ministry “does not like” the ease with which nationals change their jobs frequently adding that the current regulations were not enough to secure professional stability among the Qataris.

For this purpose, he said, more “restrictions” on the easy movement of Qataris from one job to another are “ under our serious consideration.” But he did not elaborate.

“Of course, we are not talking about enacting laws similar to the transfer of sponsorship” for expatriates, he said. “But for the benefit of our citizens and state, I believe restrictions on change of jobs are vital so long as the rules do not clash with a citizen’s right to choose a job in his own country.”

Al-Rameel said that Qataris themselves should realise that they have a responsibly to fulfil and a role to play in this process. “It is unfair to rely totally on the government,” because the citizens are partners with the state and the employers in the development of the country.

He said the Ministry of Labour would continue its steady efforts towards accelerating the process by training job-seekers locally “in accordance with the requirements of the relevant national organisations.”

“It is true that taking part in career fairs is an important aspect of Qatarisation but we should take measures throughout the year to reach that goal.”
