I went to the city center mall today....
And guess what??? It was full of qataris...
Full of families and such...
Not many expats there at all...
So why do they need it on Friday???
It's BS...

I was walking into Vilagio last week and there were two young India guys getting stopped by security. The guard who was keeping them out actually looked at me (by myself on 'Family Day') and said Good Morning Sir. I told him the two guys who he stopped with with me, and if he had a problem to go get his section manager. He started to argue so I said it again a little louder, "they're with me" and he let them pass. It is one thing to have a Family Day, it is another to do in on the only day these guys have off and even worse to make is so obvious that they are only being stopped because of the color of their skin.

Arab people are an exception :( I faced this many times before ... I almost fought with the security because seldom i lose my temper, but i found it really ridiculous to find groups of singles [all of you know] getting in while he is asking me to leave at the door.

I asked him, what's about those? I can't see in family there ... what is this all about? He did not say anything, but sorry i can't let you in ...

It is like if anyone care about who inside there, was just trying to buy something from carrefour, 5 minutes as i know the time and then leave. He thought that i was fighting to go and watch the repeating, boring shows in there or take them as an excuse to do something like Deer Hunting inside :(

They have the right to go and shop too with or without ac.

There was one article about one business man from the souq saying that the day they stop labours going inside the souq on friday his sales drop more than Qr 10.000

This people shop too, of course they will not look for the rolex but they are looking for any bargain and they deserve to have fun in his day off too.

The logic is quite very simple.

These malls are air conditioned. If they don't restrict the entry, you will find all labor class coming into the mall and simple spend their time and enjoy the AC. Specially on Friday because thats the day when they have a break.

Now, since these guyz are occupied on weekday till 7am to 10pm, these malls won't have any problem. I am sure any expat with decent dressing will be able to walk-in and walk-out during weekends into any mall. I haven't had any problem so far.

is it only city center that has Fri. as family day or all the malls around?

By GodFather.• 5 Aug 2008 23:31
GodFather.

This is actual a true story, funny that any thing do with Qataris never makes the papers.

This was reported by a worker at the one of the posh cafe at City Centre, This is what was observed.

Two qatari ladies (supposed to be ladies) dressed in their full Abaya top to bottom type went to have coffee in one of these coffee places.

It was revealed that when one of the (supposed lady) lifted her veil to sip the coffee it was discovered it was a bloke with a goatie. At which the staff alerted the manager, by the time any body could raise the alarm the pair disappeared.

Are Qatris getting this desperate to dress up like ladies to take their date out. I could imagine if the girl family found out they might have done the worse to this guy..

but you are right and I really hate this thing.

They let me get inside but stop some guys I believe Nepalis and Filipinos, what the heck they think we are going to do during our free day??? watch their crap tv shows???

Fock that Everyone should go out this friday to the malls just to make traffic and upset this ridiculous guys that want family day at the mall.

Why you dont stay at your house and have a real family day.

i was in villaggio one friday and what i noticed is that they are letting white people and arabs to enter the mall even if they are alone.but if they are filipino.nepal, indian, pakistani the guards will block them.it's not family day at all.

It seemed like they had nothing better to do than hang at the mall...So when its too crowded on Fri...

Just my opinion...

Looked like bored school kids at the mall in the states only they were Adults....

My first time there during the week so...

Just an opinion...
