Parking ticket - why???? It makes no sense!

Sabrina
By Sabrina

Okay...so I walked outside to my car this morning and found a parking ticket stuck to my car. The question is...why did I get a ticket? I was parked in MY parking spot at my apartment building. Hm.

Anyhow, does anyone know the protocol for disputing a ticket? I feel like I have to, as I do not want to continue to receive parking tickets at my own home. Should I go to the local police station? (Not that I know where that is.) Or, is there somewhere else I should go?

Hi. Could anybody tell me that how much time does it normally take to get the wrong parking fine uploaded in the traffic system after finding the sticker on the car. I got the sticker yesterday and till now moi website is not showing any fine. I am travelling out of Qatar in 5 days and do not want hassles at Immigration due to this.

Any useful information/ guidance is welcome.

Thanks in advance.....

If the car is not moving, it is parked - no matter if the car is running. Why didn't your wife move the car if the police were giving out fines?

You pay

I checked it through the website of MOI ... you dont have to pay till you have to register the car. He had one around 2 yrs ago ... and he only find out months later when he registered the car.

Novita, how long did it take for the two speeding tickets to get notified to your husband?

How's this for bizarre? A friend got fined for overtaking ... on a roundabout. How is this achieved?

From what i know, if you're driving without a license, that's when they take your car for impounding...you have to show them your license and pay the fine (t think it's QAR 1,000 -2,000, not sure, though)

For those who just got their license, if you had one major violation, they will take your license and you cannot drive anymore. That's what they told me when I got my license.

Check the website ducky told you. I think they have the list of traffic violations and the corresponding fines.

of an instance in which one of the engineering consultancy offices had been burgled and the manager had to attend the police station, at that time on Al-Saad Street, to give a report.

When he came out, he been booked for parking in the police car park in a policemans space. His was the only car in the car park.

is it true that if u have 3 violations, they will take your car until u pay for it?

Ducky, I still like to believe I got lucky for a change and the camera was on test mode or the film in it was over or the picture was out of focus and they can’t read my plate number :) … anyways when/if I'll get it I’ll definitely (and sadly) report it here

Junarc, yes the web site is: http://www.moi.gov.qa/english/index.html then click on traffic violation.

Syo, I think it’s a good idea to carry the ticket with you tomorrow. I’m quite positive that they don’t transfer the car unless all the pending fines are cleared and you would avoid any consequences on whoever is buying your car.

the same website lets you check for any violations:

http://www.moi.gov.qa/english/index.html

Plus, there's another site that lets you do the same:

http://www.e.gov.qa/eGovPortal/index.jsp

maybe they're woefully backed up that it'll take years for your ticket to show up. :-)

let everyone know when your ticket shows up so we can have an idea of how long it takes.

ehey, ducky... thanks. this will be helpful. the ticket looks like a bunch of rolled up papers with a yellow sticker attached to it. i think it's better to bring the ticket and show it there. so i can pay for it immediately. back in saudi when i got a couple of speeding tickets... when i tried to pay 'em the police said "not in computer". i showed the tickets but he insisted "not in computer... mafi mushkil... mafi pay". i hope it's the same here :-)

is there any site wherein you can be able to check if u have any violations and stuff?

Here's the list from the MOI website:

http://www.moi.gov.qa/English/info_center/Violation_List.html

Kind of confusing, eh? Looks like it could be 200 or 300 riyals. I loved reading through the other violations. If they actually gave tickets for all the violations listed, they'd be sitting pretty.

What do the tickets look like? I saw am officer putting a sticker on one car but I didn't know what it was. I thought it looked funny for a ticket - it looked more like a "honk if you like my car" kind of sticker! :-)

I have no idea how long it takes a ticket to show up so maybe others here will know.

hi guys.

this morning a friend of mine borrowed my car and parked at a bank's parking area. when he went out he saw an illegal parking ticket tucked between the wiper. he said it's his fault and is going to pay for the ticket. no problem there.

the question is, i have somebody else buying my car tomorrow and we will do all the paperworks tomorrow morning. so it means i'll have to check if i have violations as well. will the ticket we got this morning show up tomorrow if we check?

reading from earlier posts here, i doubt i'll see it tomorrow. what i could probably do is ask how much it cost for an illegal parking ticket... and if it doesn't show up tomorrow... then i'll have to give the buyer a discount. a ticket worth of discount :-)

I saw the camera light flashing on me, no doubt there ...

I'm not sure, I guess whenever you go to the traffic police for any reason they check and ask you to pay, like when you transfer car ownership and they can’t do it unless all the pending tickets are paid off … which makes me think I’ve very recently renewed my road permit with no mentioning of any speed ticket … huuummm maybe the camera did run out of film after all!

I saw cops putting stickers on cars...is that the ticket? How do they keep track of it? And doesn't someone have to input the info on a computer?

and how did you know you were getting a speeding ticket? and what happens if you don't pay?

By ducky• 18 Mar 2007 15:53

oops...i thought this was a new thread - my bad

knowing my luck, i'd get a ticket and it would show up right away.

what happens if you don't pay?

I’m still waiting for a speed ticket to show up and it has been a good six months now!! Maybe the camera ran out of film and I will never get it :))

how long does it take a traffic ticket to show up on-line?

can you check there?

By easy• 14 Aug 2006 12:11

You have to know that getting a ticket in Qatar doesn't mean you've to pay for it - if you can find the right person. You should take a photo of where you got the ticket and try to see the "higher" officials in the traffic department. They're mostly reasonable and will probably scrape the whole thing.

Especially in residential area, when you park yr car along the building sideway.. even without obstructing any traffic, you still can get a ticket. As long as it's tar-road, it's a no-no. Park in the sand is free as explained by my PRO.

e46M3 - You are always so helpful. I am in the airport area, so I will try to go there. I am pulled way up in my space, and there is no sidewalk area near my apartment building. So, I will hopefully be able to take care of this thing.

Take a picture of your car at the exact spot where it was parked when you got the ticket.

Depending on where you live you will have to go either to Airport Traffic Police or Madinat Khalifa Police near Immigration.

See the lieutenant in charge. They're usually accommodating.

Are you sure your car wasn't in anyway on the sidewalk or sticking out too much into the street?
