I'm very angry that my thread had to be shut down because of some people with an obvious political or religious agenda. My thread had nothing to do with covering or not covering and some of the comments made by Eco-Savvy and Versimilitude were simply disgusting.

I for one apologise for the thread that started it all, for getting out of hand - I make no excuses... its silly to get involved with "one track minds".

I plan on refraining from commenting in future on threads where people are "showing red flags to bulls";-P

I came to Qatar to learn about the ME and the cultures here - it always facinated me - I love it here - I love everything about it - good and bad... I understand that people get defensive about their "natural habitat" but there is good and bad in both places and it all needs to be taken looked at in context...

There are unfortunately though, a handful of people who seem to be against us, and make it their aim to ruin our reputation.

It was an unfortunate case of shoody electrics + (we think) mouse that started the whole thing, though looking at what was left of the wiring afterwards, it could have just been the electrics on it's own. A tiny fire in a wooden building meant it was out of control within minutes.

chelsea i think you should not get into controversies. The kind of work you are doing is more social and releated to public dealing and why do you care for bad comments .I follow your threads keenly and found that there are lot of people who appreciate your work.keep going

Chelsea, you might think it's pointless, but I don't. You know why? You express how you feel and the bashers come out in force. If I was you I would feel satisfied to see how many people are so frustrated that the only way they think is safe to ATTACK is to do it behind (what they think is) a created username. I stand for what I feel and do. I argue my points. But I meet ignorance with even more ignorance. It's stopped being worth it trying to hammer any little bit of common sense into peoples' brains. Look at why QAWS has burned down - how lower can people sink??? Ban of face cover in France - what do we always hear, like a broken record? Don't like it, leave! Amen to that!

Alumnar has highlighted the issues. QL has got worse. It is a lot more cliquey (sorry if it is spelt wrongly).

Friends cover each other no matter if the other is writing garbage. They gang up on others. Personal attacks are common. Many people think that they can cover their snide remarks by adding a ";)" .

Most posts get turned into Pro-Islam / Anti-Islam rhetoric. Post a neagtive story about the West and you become a West Basher. Post a negative story about thuis region and you become an Islam basher.

It is a real shame because there could be so much to discuss and learn from each other.

I think some Qlers need rest!

I totally agree with you and partly feel this thread falls under the "pointless posts" section!! It's not like it's going to make any difference!!

QL has turned into a place where Personal Attacks should be under a 'Favourites' Section. It also seems that anything counts and while some people get away with virtual murder, others get simple and non-offensive posts deleted because they don't fall in line with whatever sensorship decides that day. Dirty counterattacks are more and more common, ignorance is enforced with swearing and pointless posts rule the website. A real shame...

They were the good old days!! Most of the old QLers have got bored and left I guess. There's still the faithful few that are still here and active... These are the ones that will never leave :D

Very little debate here, I could post a thread about a woman buying some bread and dropping a 500 QR note and me picking it up and giving it to her. Next thing would be somethign posted about Israel, how G Bush is the anti-christ and Tom Cruise drinks the blood of muslims while having illicit relations, plus a pathetic fine for a motorist who killed a family of 5.
