Pink toys 'damaging' for girls
Must say that I found this interesting... and I agree with them..
The "pinkification" of girls' toys is damaging their development, according to a mother who has called for a boycott of The Early Learning Centre, the retailer she claims is the worst offender
Rows upon rows of pink musical instruments, dressing-up outfits, and pretend kitchens are encouraging an "obsession with body image, which starts younger and younger" and makes girls think "beauty is valued over brains".
The campaign has been backed by Ed Mayo, the former government "consumer tsar" and author of Consumer Kids, How Big Business is Grooming our Children for Profit.
Miss Moore points out that ELC sells pink toy washing machines, pink cash registers, and even pink globes.
"Why on earth do girls need to have a globe in pink?" said Mr Mayo. "Does it ultimately lead to the 15 per cent pay gap suffered by women further down the line?. That's far too simplistic, but I feel gender roles are becoming polarised far too early on."

One of the other things is that little girls are beginning to think Pink and then use Jordan as a role model..
I hate pink.. and the 4-in-1 USB port, webcam, etc that I bought from Jarir a few months back was ONLY in shocking pink! Ugh! had to buy it cos the price was reasonable and I needed the USB ports... :0(

Inshaallah, chinx.
chinx is crazy about pink, I can vouch for that ;-)
i started to be a pink fanatic when i was a teenager boston.i jaz love the hello kitty then i notice all her clothes are made of pink and white...my mom buys different toys no particular color..so i am a grown up woman.okiez?
But not in total excess of it. I think that's psychologically 'automatic'.
So blame the parent for pushing it in excess.
But do they really need to boycott and make a reason that it "damages a girl's development"?

there are three essential foundation for the growth and development of a child..knowledge, skills and attitude..color preferences will change as the child grows...color is not a big issue for them..and will not hinder their growth to all stages..
But you still go for pink, chinx. Does that mean you're not grown up yet?
yes i believe they grow out of it...
double
I think a healthy young girl will automatically switch from pink to another color, as my daughter did, when she was about 5 or 6. All of a sudden blue was her favorite color and all the pink stuff was looked at as the past.
he is japanese. but it doesnt make sense, hello kitty is pink
well, that's what parents are for, - to instill in their child proper values so they'll grow up knowing that there are far more important things than looking pretty.. so it shouldn't matter what color of toys or clothes or whatever they prefer.. my personal opinion only..
That's right, brit. It's very important to be pretty when there is nothing else.
Got that Brit, sorry for my mindless blabber :-)
He was a liar, rein.
Your psychology professor needs a psychic rein.
i prefer to buy pink dress and toys for my daughter and she really looks pretty.both of us are pinkaholic..:)
I think the point they are trying to make is that "Pinkifacation" at the early age makes the girls believe that it is more important to focus on looking pretty, rather than trying to excel at something..
my psychology professor said that pink is masculine
Sandeep - that's so true, I've met a fair few money hungry women in my time.
I hate pink! It's an awful colour, I prefer a fiery red ;-)

They get bored of pink, sandee. It's a natural selection process.
If they are pinkified since birth, just when and where do they get greenified with the colour of money :-/
hey my daughter loves pink so i don't mind the pink toys.. :P
it's one way to attract buyers...

ufff i really love pink...i'm a pink addict...
And boys are meant to be blue = sad?
That's why I got the blues, man.
It is quite strange how most things are pink when you go into the toy shop. Even clothes for young girls follow a similar pattern.
It's really concerning how girls are so body conscious at such an early age.
