PLEASE stop posting another language

By indorachel

Ok ...I'm asking nicely ...please stop posting another language in this forum ....some of us dont understand it .... maybe you can PM people or make it outside the forum ...it's just annoying to see most of the title is in another language .... I know there is a certain forum or group for it ...but it come to the main forum too .... so can you please respect us who dont understand what you are saying ...

Thank you so much for your consideration ....

By anonymous• 19 Oct 2008 20:02

Yes! Please stop posting in English! no one can understand it anyway! It would be better if people posted in Latin...at least more people can understand and write Latin correctly. If its good enough for Julius then its good enough for everyone else.........

nobody is wrong and nobody is completely right. The thing is, in my point of view, that anybody who actually is in Qatar at this moment, can live or work without at least a little bit of English. So is no logic the existence of excluding alter languages threads, which are no polite at all.

Ok. If I don't like I wouldn't enter. But very often I fell into this threads by Googling around.

That's my opinion... Que!

Sometimes in my responds I do include some words from another languages ( mainly in arabic) but I use famous phrases maybe someone will learn something new I hope noone mind that??

No, post in any language you like. No one is forcing anyone to read anything. So just backoff and stop telling people what to do.

You may read awhile and see if you're familiar with such words from other languages. It's not a bit annoying.

Well now I'm curious with the Urdu language recently (blame Salmamohd and SPEED) and a little Arabic (blame Alexa and Aisha-Taweela) and a little German (blame MagicDragon) and a little...uhh, do we have French here? :-P

thank you guys for all your opinion ....as speed said ...everybody have their right to their opinion and freedom of speech here in QL ... I guess I'm agree to britsexpat for saying as long as the title is the same language as the body I wont open it ...but sometimes the title is in english and the body will be in another language ...I wont saying only tagalog but I found it also in french the other day ..... again freedom of speech and freedom of opinion ...so that's my opinion...cheers everybody

I agree, Alexa, it is a courtesy to respond in the language of the original post.

However, we both know that QL is not often the place of 'courtesy and manners'.

Perhaps posting in another language isn't the 'right' thing to do, but can people just get over it?

Seriously, it's no biggie, right?

it's just that it happens. the only thing some people get pissed off is when they got interested on something they ended up being disappointed.

I don't mind postings in other languages as long as the "subject" is also posted in the same language.. That way, i won't access it..

What I fin d irritating is that the subject is in English, so I go there and then the topic/ discussion is in another language..

people.. always check the top of the posting of the author.. you will see there the category.. it always mention there the group/category of the posts.. so don't complain if you happen to read posts under certain group.. it's a priviledge of THAT GROUP to talk in their own language..

flipino group here in QL, we try to abide the rules by our moderator. That was why he created a group. Unlike before, anybody can post in the main forum, and some posted in their own dialect/language. But as the group was formed (according to nationalities), I guess there's freedom to post in your own language. Unfortunately, what you often see here were posted by filipinos. But pls, don't be offended, but rather check the category where the topic is being posted.

sometimes, just try to be patient as some are new on the forum (talking about the Filipinos) and they got lost in between group and main forum..

you can always ask them for translation.. if i happen to be online i would gladly translate phrases to you.. :)

Does it really, truly, make that much of a difference whether or not people occassionally post in a language other than English?

There are even some people who post in a language similar to english, but I don't understand what they are typing. Perhaps datz becoz Im old n not wif the yoof.

So maybe we shouldn't just stop at imposing a language restriction. Maybe we should implement a style guide, with prefered spellings of some words, and agreement on which inverted commas and parentheses are suitable in certain circumstances. And people who can't use the possessive apostrophe should be banned. Would that make everyone happy?

For the same reason that when you walk into a coffee shop or restaurant or whatever you speak English. It's been accepted as the common language in Qatar and hence is also the common language on QL.

There aren't many online forums where people post in multiple languages on the main forums. They're nearly always sub-divided into language specific groups, as they are on QL.

I can see why it is difficult for the site owners to monitor things if in different languages but why not have more moderators who speak other languages? eek, what are the consequences? I will have to keep my greek language a secret!

I'll argue with what rami-leb said, just for fun;

The site owners and admin have said on numerous occasions that only English should be used in the main forums. Hence everyone has to abide by that or face the consequences.

Other languages can be used in their respective groups.

By Flammable• 15 Oct 2008 10:23

Let’s make it simple, once a thread posted in English, everyone should comment in English only.

Those who are seeking for linguistic diversity can read items posted in those languages.. :)

It's user generated content, my dear. If the users want to post in another language, then so be it.

If you can't understand the thread title, then don't click it.

There's enough white/western discrimination in Qatar without adding QL to it.

Leave people to post in any language they desire.

i have no issue with different languages on QL it reflects the diversity...

some members for example of Latino group actually dont post because they dont have the English skills to write.

They are active members of the Latino Group and one of the great things about QL is bringing people together.

So i think its fair that a lot of the Latino Group info is in Spanish / Portuguese
