As I know, Muslims do not have to hate Jews. The Jews are hated because Muslims experienced lots of problems communicating with some of them.

As I know, in Qura'an there is a verse that tells not all Jews are same, nor all Christians are same.

Located in the middle of the planet, Meccah is a holy place for Muslims. As I know no statute is allowed in the holy mosque there. Making statutes of animals & humans is forbidden in Islam. Also, as I know, even Christians do not like the idea of making statutes of Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him).

Now, if you dare read the verses YOU posted most of them said fight the "disbelievers"...now that was NOT taken in a broad sense it was specific, the Muslims were enduring an onslaught by their Meccan neighbours (who were not Muslim and were trying to dissolve the religion for political purposes at the time) thus God had given Muslims the right to fight against them. God, also made it clear to fight those who "persecute" you and ruled that Muslims were not allowed to be over-aggressive.

Now many many evangelical racist sorts do try to distort the meanings of the Qu'ran by doing something as silly as picking 1 single sentence out of entire chapter!

Do you know that when the Muslims were being persecuted by the Meccans at the time a Christian king even gave them refuge and there were countless alliances with the Jews?

The Muslims were being slaughtered and fought against for the same reason they are now--political purposes and power. So God had given them the right to defend themselves. Doesn't sound so horrible to me because even your fellow Christian brethern at the time had offered the Muslims refuge.

Now see that is someone who does their homework.

And of course the verses revealed in Mecca were regarding different issues than the verses revealed in Medina, because it was when the Muslims were in Medina that they were being engaged in war while in Mecca they were dealing with persecution, torture and humiliation, not full-out combat.

It's like reading ANY book SAGE, one can not just read a single sentence and hope to get the just of the book, one must read it cover to cover and then they can get a clear understanding.

And by the way, when God refers to the "disbelievers", in the Qu'ran that is not regarding Christianity and Judaism. God refers to Christians and Jews as "Believers" and people of the book. We are even permitted to eat food that is slaughtered by them. So, once again much of your information is taken out of context and you must read at least a whole chapter to know what is being talked about and why.

Islam spread by its highest morality and nature of equality without need to kill people to be Muslims.

When I first meet someone, I want to know that person & get to know them for who they are, not what their religious beliefs are.

We are all individuals, all with our own opinions. Everyone is has a right to what they think, please don't judge them on their religious beliefs.

No one is perfect no matter what their religion is. I am not going to mention what my religion is, as I dont want to be judged that way. I am a person first, what my religious beliefs are does not matter.

War is not an objective of islam nor is it the normal course of muslims. It is only the last resort and is used under the most extraordinary circumstances when all other measures fail. This is the actual status of war in islam. Infact islam is the religion of peace; its meaning is peace; one of God's name is peace; the daily greetings of muslims and angels is peace; paradise is the house of peace; the adjective 'muslim' means peaceful. Peace is the nature, the meaning, the emblem and the objective of islam. Every being is entitled to enjoy the peace of islam and the kindness of the peaceful muslims, regardless of religious or geographical or racial considerations, SO LONG AS THERE IS NO AGRESSION AGAINST ISLAM OR MUSLIMS. if non-muslims are peaceful with the muslims or even indifferent to islam, there can be no ground or justification to declare war on them. There is NO such things as religious war to force islam on non-muslims, because if islam does not emerge from deep convictions, from within, it is not acceptable to God. I absolutely agree with Richard that Muslims should answer criticism with confidence and authority and not be defensive about it. In order to do that, they must educate themselves on various issues concerning them and the rest of the world.

I agree richard that Muslims should take time to educate those around them especially when it comes to dealing with all the various stereotypes that plague Muslims.

I am very agitated when it comes to this new character SAGE because you can tell he has an agenda to spread his ill-informed view.

There are many ppl. on Qatar living who will challenge and question Islamic beliefs and practices (Tyler I am totally talking about you) which is welcomed.

Its no secret that I am sympathetic to your point of view. But what Sage says needs to be heard and understood because unfortunately, there are a lot of people in the US, Canada and Europe who share his views. The facts are that there is a lot of violence being perpetuated by people who claim to be muslims. They are committing that violence on both muslims and non muslim.

Equally, there are so called Christians (the US and British armies and air forces) who are raining death and destruction on muslims, most of whom are entirely innocent women and children. These countries are also happy to sell nasty inhumane weapons to pretty much anyone who wants to buy them. They can then use this as a convenient excuse to invade countries whose rulers they can no longer control under the guise of national security.

I think that Muslims should answer criticisms with confidence and authority and not be defensive about it. I don't mean by quoting vast tracts of the Qu'uran (anyone can do that) but by putting forward argument that explains what Islam really means in practical terms. I think they should also distance themselves from those so called muslims who use Islam as a justification for violence. Just in the same way that Christians have to acknowledge that some so called Christians use their religion to justify a war on Islam and muslim people.

I don't know maybe because I was brought up properly in a Muslim family, I was taught to have respect for all people of all religions. That is what my faith preaches and it is what I practice.

I think everyone should view this. It shows what we know, that the American people are being sold a lie against muslims. The Scofield bible of 1909 and 1967 actually rewrote the Old Testament, Genesis and Deuteronomy, claiming rights to a Jewish nation that didn't exist and stating that Christians who did not support this or who were anti-Semitic were in a sinful state.

With reference to your posting that Christianity is a peaceful religion, there is no doubt about it as there is no doubt that Islam is a peaceful religion.

However, people saying that muslims are intolerant of people of other beliefs as compared to Christians is a joke. Just have a brief look at history and you will know the truth. Muslims ruled over Spain for 800 years but as soon as Christians took over, they either killed or exiled all muslims. Similar thing happened in Philipines as well. Whereas if you look at places where muslims have ruled, non-muslims are still living without any problems. e.g. Lands of Arab still have a large Christian population. India was ruled by muslims for more than 1000 years but muslims are still a minority there.

Today, if a minority of muslims are engaged in fighting on religious basis, it is primarily because of illiteracy and very myopic view of the world. But a large majority of muslims openly distance themselves form these lunatics. On the other hand, take a look at Christian world. Bush & Blair put middle east and Afghanistan on fire and still stupid/intolerant/blinkered british and Americans population elected them for another term. I am out of words to explain the reason for this behaviour of these populations but it is the majority of british and US public who wants this to happen.

You make a very good point. I have been studying Islam since I came here trying to get a good understanding. I was brought up a Catholic and I have to say if you look at the history of the spread of Catholicism it is a pretty depressing story of lack of tolerance, bloodshed and a desire to convert the "heathen". This has changed now. Why? Because most Catholics do not take the bible literally any more, they no longer believe that unbaptised babies are denied entry to heaven, that only Catholicism is the way to eternal salvation etc?

The riots in France had nothing to do with religion.

The perpetrators of the acts were overwhelmingly Muslim, but their Muslimness had no causal role in the riots.

In fact, it was other characteristics they shared that played a causal role in the violence. You should explain why you've ignored them while wrongfully attributing their actions to their Muslimness.

The rioters are the male children of first, second, and third generation North African immigrants. They form an economic underclass, suffer from high levels of unemployment, and are not integrated into French society and economy.

A majority of them were young men involved with gangs, who do drugs, drink alcohol, assault girls, etc. Their rage was not religious, nor did they identify themselves religiously. Moreover, the victims of their violence (car and shop owners, etc.) were overwhelmingly Muslim.

Muslim rule???

Granted all religions have a place in the world its down to each person to make up their own mind on who they believe in etc, yes there have been acts under taken by many believers in separate religions to prove a point or in protest (Vietnam Buddhist priest as possibly the most famous pictorial evidence).

Its learning to get along amongst ourselves and respect other peoples beliefs that is paramount regardless, war in the name of religion is pathetic, not one of the holy scriptures be it catholicism or islam condone war or human cruelty.

As for places being under specific rule of one religion, well that is true to say in any country in any part of the world, in california im sure there are areas with a vast majority of scientologists!

And as for religious law governing certain parts of the UK, that does not mean they are exempt from local laws.

Sickness can not be contained with sickness. It needs to be treated immediately. If it’s not curable, it has to be isolated from the community and for the larger benefit of the community root causes for such sickness are needed to be studied by people who believe in human dignity, science and mathematics ;-)

Killing yourself is quitting, killing yourself to make a statement is pretty much putting an end to that statement and taking it with you to the grave! What did he acheive by taking his life? He could have been more productive just staying alive and starting a cult or something that agrees with his way of thinking!

Yes it is a sign of mental illness. People feel that this is the only way out. The same in all countries and religions. Do you not think abortion is the same, a life is a life?

Tyler what would you do if you were in the same situation as some of these people? Would you react differently? I do not condone violence in such manners but I also know that any human being is capable of such acts if they are put in certain situations. The conditions including mental illness, poverty, and etc help to define how a person will react in situations regardless of who condones or sanctions it.
