Puppy Season...
It's that time of the year again and we're over-run with puppies! We currently have 6 pups at the farm with another 14 waiting to come in! All the puppies are MIXED BREEDS and no we do not have any pure bred puppies! They range in age from 6 weeks to 16 weeks (please note we do not rehome puppies under the age of 8 weeks so you can reserve one of the smaller ones and come back when they are old enough). We will have photographs of the puppies not at the shelter to show suitable parties and pass on contact details of the person looking after them at the moment.
If anyone is seriously thinking about taking a puppy on, then please come down to the shelter and meet one of us. We interview all of our potential adopters to make sure we match them with a suitable pet.
Please do not be offended if you are turned down for adopting a puppy and advised to take an older dog instead. Puppies require someone to be at home for the majority of the day as they will require a lot of training and attention. If you (and spouse) have a full time job and there is no-one at home then unfortunately a puppy is not a suitable pet.
Our puppies are NOT free. You will be expected to pay for their vaccinations (and neutering if old enough) and give a donation towards their upkeep at the shelter. You will not be able to take your puppy on the same day as you will need to prepare your home and buy eveything you need. We also give a 24 hour thinking period where we will reserve the pet whilst you go home and seriously consider the implications of owning an animal.
Please be advised that we cannot predict what the puppies will look like when they are fully grown although we will have a rough idea of how big they will get.
Remember that a puppy is a lifetime commitment. These dogs can live for up to 15 years and you must be prepared to keep them for that long. If you leave Qatar - your pet must go too (that applies to all species of animals)!!
We also have over 30 dogs (ranging from 6 months - 3 years) and 30 cats & kittens looking for new homes. If you would like to meet any of our residents then please visit www.qaws.org to find photographs of our older dogs, opening times and a location map. Any queries can be sent to [email protected].
