DOHA, Qatar (AP) — The head of Qatar's 2020 Olympic bid has appointed his sister and a prominent businesswoman to top posts in the Gulf nation's campaign.

Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who is a son of Qatar's emir and also heads Qatar's Olympic committee, announced Wednesday that business executive Noora al-Mannai would serve as the bid's chief executive officer.

His sister, Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al Thani, and Sheik Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani will serve as vice presidents.

Doha is competing against Rome, Madrid, Tokyo, Istanbul and Baku, Azerbaijan. Doha proposes holding the Olympics in September or October to avoid the summer heat.

The IOC will select the host city in September 2013.

I believe the logic behind this bid is so that the tower just back of the Corniche will be properly utilised again as the bid headquarters for an Olympic push - have to do something with it!!

I would suggest this one will go to Madrid - they have had their noses pushed out of joint on both WC and Olympic bids in the last couple of years.

The successful 2022 award has caused SO MUCH controversy around the globe that I doubt the IOC will allow themselves to fall into the "Blatter trap". Besides, has anything REALLY changed since the sham of the last Qatari bid for Olympic status in terms of what the IoC will and will not accept??

It seems the main competitor is Istanbul! However, I believe this would prove too much for the development of Qatar. It's already a push to get Qatar ready for 2022...even with all the money! The rail network they are putting in place 'should' take 20 years, they will do it in half this time. This has to be up and running in 2020 for testing....bring the Olympics and it will have to be ready in 2018....only just over 6 years from today! Not long enough. 2024 would be ideal, but hear that Dubai is going for that one.....

I stand corrected, I need to crawl back under my table before I start thinking out loud in the 3rd person and make a bigger fool of myself :-(
