Qatar Fair

For Expatriates- What do you think about Qatar fair 2011. For me, I saw very insulting and humiliating behaviours by Organizers toward expectriates (specially indians and phillipinos).
Note from Mods. It was stated that the fair was for Qatari students as posted by Nomad

Have you felt same?

Here's an excerpt from their website:

"It will offer Qatari students education, recruitment, training opportunities & development in order to enhance their abilities and strengthen their skills enabling them to meet the challenges in national development.

Through effective participation in this fair, public and private institutions can provide the largest number of jobs to Qatari citizens, provide the right employment opportunities and meet the objectives of the Qatarization policy."

well galloper, from what I understand, one is not supposed to look for work if one is on a a. tourist visa, visit visa. A free visa, to my knowledge ,is not quite legal. So, again, no need for a career fair.

Again, Qatar is not a country where expatriates are supposed to look for work, we are supposed to HAVE work BEFORE we actually arrive here.

From what I hear, Qatar is trying to widen its Qatari workforce...therefore they hold things like this career fair...not for expats to do their thing.

We, the expats, are nothing more than hired workers..once our job is finished, for what ever reason, we are supposed to leave. UNLESS there is specific demand , but in that case we do not need to LOOK for a job, the job will be offered to us.

Now, if people would abide by those rules, which are set by the Qatari government, we all would have much less to worry. And much less to complain about.

let's not forget about all this people under: husband visa, family visit visa, tourist visa, "free" visa and etc etc etc; trying to land a job before the mentioned document (Visa) expires.

Regards!!

PS: I'm not justifying anyone...I'm just making a comment!!!

From what I understand it was a job and career fair. Who else but Qataris would be in need of those? We, the expats , come here already WITH/BECAUSE of a job, non? Why would we need to go look for one at a fair?

We are also not encouraged to change jobs, hence the often difficult task of getting a NOC.....so really, why would we go to a career fair in Qatar?

I am a indian and i will never generalise things as some of you do. I for one have lived in middle east for over 18 years and come across some very well behaved and some bad behaved people and this is not only here but in INDIA and OTHER countrys too .We cannot generalise people with a certain country or region, please have a look at how your own country men behave back in your country.-GOD BLESS

If you have read the Advertisement, it says that, Qatar Fair is only for Qatari.

Lesson: Don't go to any gathering if you are not one of them!

have you been there.. share your experience too. Can you imagine I saw one indian man, dressed really well. They stopped him at the main door and given way to their Nationals and welcoming them.

The only concern of mine is if it was not for expatriates, why not to mention it from the very beginning. I really felt bad for that Indian guy.

I have never seen more impolite people than in the Middle East. It's the Arab mentality. (Ibn Khaldoun 1332 - 1406, noticed this, too.)
