Highest top speed ive heard here is a 18 year old kid doing 360 odd on a custom big bore busa. And I heard he did it at 3 in the morning so all the safety nazis calm down.
Angelo, I totally agree with the "slower vehicles should use the inside lane" rule. I will comment more on that further down in this post. But my question to you was in reference to your comment:
"Regarding people driving in the fast lane observing the speed limit - please move over if there is no car to the right, appreciate your concern, however, there are times when it can't be helped."....
So... when are these "times" that "it can't be helped" and you *have* to speed???
As far as I am concerned, yes, if I am in the outside lane, on a reasonably open stretch of road (ie not a local street) and I see someone coming up behind me, then I move over *nearly* every time. Exceptions to that are when:
- I am already travelling at (or even a teensy weensy bit over ;) ) the speed limit, and there are a number of slower-moving vehicles in the inside lane, so my pulling into the inside lane will cause me to have to severely slow down. In that instance, I don't feel obliged AT ALL to give way to the moron behind me who pulls up close and wants ME to inconvenience myself just so that he can get to his destination quicker. Uh-uh, not going to happen. :) Welcome to my bumper.
- The idiot who thinks, after we have just pulled away from the traffic lights or out of the roundabout, that I have to automatically move to the right and get out of *his* way even when I am already accelerating at a reasonable speed *and* I need to turn left at the next intersection (only 200m away)... (this is obviously on a local street, not on a major highway)... again - sorry bozo, I don't care how important you *think* you are; you can wait those extra 5 seconds until I reach the turn left lane, then feel free to wrap yourself around the nearest light pole. :)
- the person who screams up behind me and is overly aggressive with the flashing of lights etc, gving me major attitude... ANYWHERE... this seems to have the strange effect of making my right calf muscle freeze and I no longer seem able to push down on the accelerator... it also occasionally makes me involuntarily tap the brake pedal... very strange. I deal with this by being EXTRA cautious, pulling into the inside lane *very* slowly (so as not to cause any accident), taking perhaps 500-700m to change lanes. Meh, it's an affliction - I deal with it. :)
Speed record in Qatar, Badawais?? Zero to stupid in less than 3.2 seconds. :)
Angelo, i don't know what you are trying to say??? I was talking about those nuts (i will not using 'ignorance asterisks' anymore to respect e4 wishes) who driving swerving lane to lane during busy time. Ignoring the speed limit with the risk might crashing other car/s. What it got to do with driving at 4.30am in the morning?
Have you been on the streets like D-ring road (Speed 100) between 430 and 530 in the morning, they are practically empty, or the North Road going to al gharia (Speed 120), or going to al khor from Doha Golf Club or even the dukhan road after the early morning rush or the weekend, the streets are empty.
Earlier, if you took 10 minutes to get from point A to point B, now takes maybe 45 min to an hour. Roads which were open yesterday maybe closed today without warning. If you have an appointment and as per your time management find you have to take a detour, you try to make up for the lost time.
I am not saying, drive like a maniac, but will drive a little faster than the speed limit allows.
Without giving more examples, I hope you understand what I am trying to say here.
What I mean is, when driving on an open-road/empty-street where the speed limit is 100 or 120, and you have someone driving infront of you in the fast lane within the speed limit and having a very ingrossed discussion with his/her passenger oblivious to the cars at the back.
Do you not think this is also dangerous and not considerate to other road users?
It doesnt matter if youre driving under the speedlimit on the fastlane or not.. even if youre doing 200 and you see someone approaching FAST,from the horizon, take a side . because when the person comes close and has to brake..then he is REALLY risking his as well as yours.. because something might go wrong with his breaks or something. then there could really be the kind of casualties we all fear.
E46.. 286 KM/H THATS THE OFFICIAL QATAR SPEED RECORD..(probably) just wondering you got a pic or video??
Did not mean addressing that to u. I seen them very often on the road, especially from Smelly Roundabout towards the step roundabout, swerved lane to lane in full speed without any indicator (i am doing 100kmph and they just pass up my car like god knows what).
Or maybe in C ring road? Come on ... you are here 10 yrs, surely you know what happening in Doha road.
I am sure when you speeding in your car, you won't be doing it in busy road like some people does. And you will speeding in your car 'safely' because u still want to go home in 1 piece to your wife and kid/s :-)
Appologize if my asterisks business touching your nerve.
I was not driving, I was a passenger in the vehicle.
I am told all high performance vehicles have a speed limiter, however, this can be turned off, provided you have the right friends. Not that I recommend it.
Driving in a BMW, Merc, Audi, Range Rover(the top of the range ones) is quite an experience, - no road noise also the music system is fantastic, and you do not realise the speed until you look at the speedometer. I was told the speed limiter was turned off in this particular BMW.
I am also told the speed limiter is set at 160 for most high performance cars - don't know if it is right.
I have sat in a Porche Carrera and the guy went from a standstill at Barbie Saloon to 140 in a matter of sec. to reach Arabian Petrol Station, a matter of 300 to 350m in traffic.
I personally have only driven the Merc 500 and Jaguar to comment that these vehicle can really move with a slight touch of the accelerator.
Have any one of you, (e46M3), been towards peninsula palace, there used to be an area on the right in the sea, during low tide, there was a massive land area where people skid there cars, but then the police got wind of it and some folks were rounded up. (What the guys would do is speed up, then pull on the hand brake and turn the steering for the car to spin - experienced that - wow)
Regarding people driving in the fast lane observing the speed limit - please move over if there is no car to the right, appreciate your concern, however, there are times when it can't be helped.
I hate it when i drive within speed limit on the fast lane. Car behind u flashing the light, and you can't move lane because too many car on the middle lane.
I can tell you I was surprised when I hit 285 in an M power which is over 40 beyond the limiter. I think I could've done more if I hadn't backed off.
BMW dealer here confirmed that for M cars the limiter is relaxed/not observed. They were also told an M6 driver called and asked how he hit 300. So there you go!
Not sure about other models. They think that sometimes "it just happens".
I agree, if you're going to drive at 20km/hour on the fast(?) lane then you should make way for others.
But, if the person in front of you on the fast lane, is driving fast enough within the speed limit then, you DO NOT have the right to flash your lights and speed up as if the next minute you're going to bump the car off the road.
I'm not sure if that's the case here, but in most other civilised countries, driving past the speed limit would be called breaking the law.
I was doing 160 on the wakrah road at night a few days back.. a guy was flashing his lights from the horizon.. I took the slow lane.. within like 5 seconds he passed me by he was in a nissan petrol the 90's model. he should he doing more than 300 ATLEAST.
thats the speed everyone should drive at :)
BTW this is a note for everyone: whenever you are driving on the fast lane, and someone flashes his lights aka Dipper... take a side, switch lanes , park your car... just get out of his way!
It really pisses me off when the guy in front wont move no matter what. they keep going at 20 on the fastlane.
excuse me angelo ... as far as you find it exciting speeding in 260 kmph, i feels that stupid things to do. Good idea not to try it again. Accident only happen once ... and you will wish that you could turn the clock back.

Only on certain stretches of autobahns. Fancy a visit?
my german friend said there is no speed limit there. You can drive as fast as you want as far as it safe. Is it right?
Gemany is the best in driving rules (and pretty much everything else)..
People are taught to get out of the fast lane when they see anyone coming fast.. its a part of their driving license training.
angelo you should get a german license.
got stuck on the 360:P
i hope to see a bugatti and a pagani there in action...i mean cruising on the street instead of inside a showroom

And how do you know novita that we're putting your family in danger?
How often do you even see people doing over 120 anyway being stuck in traffic jams.
There are times and there are places for speeding and I'm sure when I've been doing it you've been fast asleep.
No need for the ignorant asterisks business.
Thank you.
I hit 267km/h on North Road. Top Gear (6) at the red line. Honda S2000.
referring to all these people with fast cars, they did not realize that they break the speed limit and put other people life in danger.
To be honest, i don't give a damn you want to speed up and killing yourself. But i am really angry knowing that you put my family life in danger.
Again ... ignorant B******
PS: Angelo ... i am not directing my post to you. :-)
It can't be helped?
What sort of "times" are you referring to...?
I was not driving, I was a passenger in the vehicle.

BTW, 745i and above can and will do 260.

Ignorance B*****
You're right about the limiter, theoretically.
I can tell you I was surprised when I hit 285 in an M power which is over 40 beyond the limiter. I think I could've done more if I hadn't backed off.

I thought all BMWs had speed limiters...adjusted to 250km/h!
Everyone should drive at?
Doubt it. It's a recipe for disaster.
Calculate the risks and remember a car at speed is as light as a feather.
I was doing 160 on the wakrah road at night a few days back.. a guy was flashing his lights from the horizon.. I took the slow lane.. within like 5 seconds he passed me by he was in a nissan petrol the 90's model. he should he doing more than 300 ATLEAST.

Not you, butterfly.
It's an expression.
Tank up on coffee.
285.
excuse me ... what butterfly? I am a bit slow on Saturday morning because no school run and running around.
...
you forgot the butterfly part.
yeah ... i know your excuse are typical. Probably i just don't have the gut to speed like u. I think fast car and men goes together.
novita, on an open road in a good car nothing can beat it.
excuse me angelo ... as far as you find it exciting speeding in 260 kmph, i feels that stupid things to do. Good idea not to try it again. Accident only happen once ... and you will wish that you could turn the clock back.
Drive safely guys.
260kmph in a BMW 7 series on the North road going to al Gharia.
Would not try that again though.
This is inviting trouble, badawais
