Qatarisation question-anyone know the answer?

An expat is on a 3 year contract with an employer in Qatar.

The employer fires the expat after 2 years, telling them they are to be replaced with a Qatari, under the Qatarisation innitiative.

Is the expat entitled to any recourse, or severence money?

the government has started to implement Qatarization law isn't it?  Like what they published in the newspapers, all Non-Specialist jobs will be replaced by Qataris but there was no statement made as to what will be the recourse of the expatriates.  Too bad

This happened to me too.

I was just given a letter saying that my post has been 'Qatarized' and to basically clean out my desk and leave work - immediately.

My employer will pay me out my notice period, which is for me is 2 months.

Anyone know of some good places to look for another job?? This is all too sudden for me.

he will take the total of one year salary(until the end of the contract) and 3 weeks (end-of-service) for each year if the employer terminate him from the country.  otherwise; he will give him a release and 3 weeks salary for each year and 1 month notice.

Thanks everyone.

I have read the Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004. But as it is now 4 years old, I just wondered if there had been any recent amendments to it, to do with the recent Qatarisation innitiatives?

under qatari labor law, any employee working more than a year is entitled to an end-of-service benefit equal to 3 weeks wages (at current rate) for each year the person worked.  so you friend should get 6 weeks wages.

unless there is something else specified in his contract, i think that would be it.

the labor law is online - tell your friend to google it to check the whole thing.
