QAWS Mascot to climb Mount Kilimanjaro!
Qatar resident and QAWS volunteer Carl Roberts will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro from the 19th - 25th July to raise money for QAWS. Ted Bear, the QAWS mascot will be joining him for the trip to help raise awareness of animal welfare issues and to offer moral support. All the money raised from Carl & Ted's expedition will go directly to the animals and will help fund the shelter through the summer.
The 100km climb will take 6 days and is something that Carl has always wanted to do. Seeing an opportunity to help the shelter, he decided to fulfill his ambition and help a good cause at the same time. Carl is currently training 6 days a week through various exercise and sports, including running 7km with QAWS dogs on a Saturday morning. His latest update tells of the difficulties in running up 200 flights of stairs in 40+ heat!
And Ted's just along for the ride :D
Anyone willing to sponsor Ted or Carl can do so by calling 539 6074, emailing [email protected] or by visiting the shelter during opening hours.
There's a competition between Ted & Carl to see who can get the most sponsors and so far Ted is winning!
Facebook users can follow their training and trip through the group "Kilimanjaro Climb for QAWS" and we're hoping to get a blackberry for Carl to use on his trip so we can have updates from the summit.
Ted Bear also has his own facebook profile (with over 260 friends!!) so don't forget to add him to follow his adventures in Qatar.
Iloveqatar.net is sponsoring the trip and any company or organisation offering significant sponsorship will be fully advertised.
Good luck Carl and Ted! We'll be cheering you on over here, you've certainly got my support!
