QAWS Wish List!

Chelsea
By Chelsea

OK so due to popular demand we're having to convert one of our storage rooms at the shelter into an office where we can sit and talk to potential adopters, fill out paperwork and generally try and keep the shelter running smoothly!

We've come up with a list of furniture and equipment that we need at the shelter (for the new office and also just generally) and we're looking at QLers for help. We're not fussy - second hand equipment is just as good as brand new as long as it's in fairly good condition and isn't going to break after 2 days!

Does anyone have the following that they are willing to donate (maybe you're leaving Qatar). At a push we can pay minimal prices for some things but we have a very limited budget!

We need:

* Office desk
* Chairs (at least 4)
* Bar Fridge (preferably with a lock and key as it will hold medication)
* Stationary (pens/pencils/boardmarkers/notebooks etc)
* Small shelving units/bookcases (the ceilings not very high!)
* Photocopier/Printer
* Laptop
* Potted Plants (Indoor & Outdoors)

Also does anyone have any idea where we can get a good deal on:

* Lockable medicine cabinets
* Lockable outdoor storage units
* Glass fronted noticeboards
* Fire extinguishers/smoke alarms

Anyone who can help, please email [email protected] or call 539-6074 or leave a message here!

Chelsea,

Do you still need a laptop? I have one that I was looking to donate to a good cause (rather than keep it as the paperweight it is!) and this would be great for both of us I think. It is a 2004 and works fine, I just have one through my company and will buy a new one eventually. Send me a message if you want it and I can get it out to you!

but no locks. They could be used for your storage or something.

Please let me know ASAP coz I'm to decide the contractor who's gonna do the disposal this weekend. In another case, steel frames of an old gym jungle could be used for the fences around the farm, if you're interested?

Dodos DID use to beat around the bush.. since they couldn't fly and all that, you know...

hehehe.

I'm on to help in whatever way I can. Do you have any use for a writer? Lemme know...

Xena - Our extinguishers are dead as dodos - let's not beat around the bush!! If we can get hold of somewhere that will service and re-gas them then we can look at getting the others from Azi and taking them all in for an MOT :D

Speed - If you could find out about the furniture that would be fantastic!!!

Batistota - Thank you for the offer, we'll let you know if we need you and your van for the bigger furniture :D

maybe we can speak to M and ask him about refilling the Extinguishers - lets not write them off totally yet:-)

Thanks for all the support guys - we really do appreciate all the help you give us.

Haha we don't have a landlord or real estate agent! The shelter belongs to QAWS.

Does anyone know where we can get fire extinguishers serviced?

and the pins intact. That's why I said, if there's somehwre we could have it checked, refilled or something.

By Chelsea• 29 Jul 2009 14:00

We have to have them but what I need to know is where we can get them checked out and serviced.

The ones that were donated 4 years ago haven't been touched since so the pins are all in place but I doubt there's any gas left in them....

Chelsea,

It depends. If you are the owner of the building, you are responsible.

Either way, it is good to have them around. Just check if the 'seal' has not been damaged and the pins are in place. Also there should be a label on it with an issue date and expiry date.

By Chelsea• 29 Jul 2009 13:47
Chelsea

They have expiry dates?! Ooops...

We have 4 at the shelter that were donated 4 years ago and they make great door stops!! I'm guessing the ones we've got would be no good anyway...

What do we do with them? If we take the ones we've got and the ones Azi has kindly donated could we get them "serviced" and if so where do we go?

Azilana,

Scrap fire extinguisher, noble gesture yet these things can not just be hung on the wall. They have expiry dates and are supposed to be checked, and approved, by the government.

and they are high quality office furniture. My CEO is on leave he will be returning on the 1st week of Aug 2009.

Will try my level best to donate you these office desk, chair etc... else if due to some reason he do not agree to give as Charity I am sure we can buy on a very cheap price.

If that is the case I can ask some of my volunteers to pool in some donation to buy the fur from my office and donate it to QAWS. :-)

Anyhow, I spoke to one of our Senior Manager in principal he agreed but he also said as per policy we have to seek our CEO's approval and he will talk to him once he is back.

So keep your fingers crossed.

About Laptop I know someone was willing to sell his personal laptop for a very cheap price I will speak to him and come back to you soon.

If you go to Home centre Jaidah, you might find some furniture at a very low price. Just ask the Manager there and tell them you are from QAWS, and would like to look at the damaged stock. Its not really damaged, minor scratches or so. perfect for your needs.

If there is somewhere who can do refills and calibrations, you can have all 6 - 8 of them.

There is a cupboard also, but it's kind of heavy. I have no car/ nor pickup to brig it to QAWS but if you like to check them and see what you could put to use at QAWS, let's meet up.

Thanks guys!

Most things will fit in our cars and we're more then happy to collect from people if it makes it easier.

The only thing that might be a problem is the desk but it should fit no problem. If not we can take it apart and re-assemble it at the shelter without too much difficulty!

Chelsea, I might have a couple of bookshelves for you. I'm waiting for my DVD folders to arrive from Amazon. When they do and I transfer the discs the shelves could be yours.

I can definitely do you an all singing, all dancing, swivelling, reclining, moving up-and-downing, bright blue office chair. It was bought brand new from Office 1 about 2 and half years old, and has only minimal staining :)

However, someone will have to come pick it up. Is that possible?

There's also a large indoor potted plant up for grabs if you want to take that at the same time.

for transporting those office furniture one should have atleast a pick up or so to bring it to QAWS. How we gonna arrange tat ?

I think we can get some tips from Speed to collect these furniture at one place and take it to QAWS.

Just a thought.
