QL Hostility

we'd have foul mouthed people just having a go at each other every other thread and the whole website would lose its charm

and its not just about bad language its also to do with the freedom of speech and people saying things that could rub the nationalistic sentiments of a few the wrong way

probably causing QL to lose its license to operate even

So it does constitute a threat to the websites security

or use language considered offensive by some a threat to security? I understand the issue of things spilling over into RL when you identify people and such. But do you really need to be protected from Olive's calling you a pig, or does she need to be protected from you calling her a slut? Neither of you can just walk away or ignore? This behaviour constitutes a threat to either of your security? It all just seems so backwards and childish in my opinion.

i've always been a twat but i must admit i don't post much anymore..............well unless i'm drunk and someone deserves to be paid out on.

because one of the fields that I have to deal with is security and I often tell my customers that security actually gives you the freedom to do more... meaning it allows you to do things which you would keep yourself away from otherwise cos you would think its not safe...

I think the same applies to QL... playing within rules give us the freedom to do more instead of being reined in every time we cross the line...

I am just voicing my opinion that these "rules" you, some qatarliving posters and the moderators follow are foolish in my opinion. I don't understand why we need nannies to protect us from being offended. But that's just me....

Also, I try not to judge people who have been banned on qatarliving before. For all I know, you might have been banned before. It seems to have a lot more to do with who/which moderator likes you than any open and unbiased moderation. If it was open and unbiased, the moderators would be known to everybody, right?

I take pains to make sure that I play within the rules. I don't start a thread victimizing a certain person so it is in my right to cry foul when someone targets me in that manner. I don't consider it healthy and its my right to have that thread closed as it did eventually.

Instead if I decided to let my bravado get the better of me and start another thread targeting the said person, I would just stoop to their level and risk getting banned which is plain stupid

But if I had a tainted past and a filthy mouth that the moderators perpetually have to clean after... I wouldn't even have that option, would I?

Offices here shouldn't be so over-staffed. Then people may have some work on the table and will not spend their energies on an internet forum. I have not moved a muscle in past 20 days to do some work as there is none. I blame the hiring policies of the companies in Qatar for the heated discussions here.

Colt...its not the case of grouping or campaigning against one person. The problem is that some members would get banned for being abusive and some wont. I dont mind at all if someone releases his/her frustration by swearing or abusing anyone on QL but then the Guidelines should be changed and it should be officially allowed to abuse or swear at other QLers.

I must say so, personal attacks are normal weapons of some qlers to put down others. Community guidelines were overlooked. But i think it's the life of QL. :)

Was goin thru the very old QL Threads, and noticed a stark contrast of old QLers posts to the new QLers post.. contrast in terms if the way they replied to the posts... Many were encouragin someone down in the dumps rather than say "You're just a pc of #$\^& [sorry MOD, had to get the idea across]..

I hope its a new renaissance for QL, because this isn't a chat room, its a forum to exchange views and ideas and if u disagree,discuss, debate and then move on... no grudges!!

It's normal that emotions go high on subjects that are hard to compromise but diplomacy is still the best option! Calm down and try to look at it on the opposite view as to understand it!

Its becoming a norm on QL that if someone runs out of valid arguments, he/she would start swearing or using abusive language. It was such a disappointment for me to see such abusive/personal comments coming from the so called intellectuals of QL.

I can vouch versi for that. Been here for 3+ years, and all is the same. There were boors earlier and now as well.

I remember people on this site used to actually listen to and try and understand someone's point of view, and if you say, had a post put up about a woman being sexually harassed, we would give her advice and some empathy. Rather then just insult and degrade her more.

There are instances when people are aggressive, but what else can you expect from a bored employee at work? This is their only outlet :).
