Rodent halts Villaggio vegetable sales

Fruit and vegetable aisles at Carrefour Villaggio have been closed after a breach of hygiene regulations. Carrefour employees were busy cleaning as confused shoppers sought alternatives for their weekend meals. "It was a mouse in the vegetable section," said one Carrefour employee, "the section could be closed a week, or it could be a month. The authorities are deciding at the moment." Notices have been posted stating the section had been ordered shut because of a "failure to comply with hygiene regulations".

That's poisonous!

I make it habbit of washing the cans of cold drinks before drinking or keeping in fridge. Or I always choose a bottled cold drinks when buying from any supermarket.

Pls. be careful:)

good on the Qatari authorities for enforcing hygiene standards.

its reassuring seeing food places getting shut down.

LOL! Even the rodents are having are hard time surviving in Qatar.

It's not a mouse or rat on your fruits and veggies that's dangerous, it's when they are in the storage area (which probably never get's checked). Rodents are smart enough not to soil their food......but have you ever wondered when they walk over other items? There was a huge case a long time ago elsewhere in the world of drink cans being infected with Leptospirosis brought on the urine of rodents.

So moral of the story, wash cans before drinking directly out of them.

Health 'n Hygiene fuzz went on a random raiding frenzy.

Or .. someone blew the whistle on the shops which caused the authorities to take action.

We had a mouse, but I haven't seen him for a couple of weeks now. I guess he ran out of water, because he certainly didn't run out of food. Almost every box in the food cupboard had been attacked.

I don't know about mice in Villagio, but having been in Doha for almost 3 months without so much as a sighting of any nasties in or around my food, I was horrified - when I was forking the last of a salad (bought ready to eat and sealed from M&S at Gatwick Airport on my way home)into my mouth - to see a maggot wriggling around in the dressing. YUK At least it wasn't HALF a maggot!

Just wanted to keep the balance on wildlife in green groceries the world over ;o)

Love the dear little mouse story, though .. poor baby must have been scared to DEATH!
