Saudi polls battle leads to divorce

JEDDAH: A woman has demanded divorce from her husband because he did not vote for her brother, who was a candidate in last week's municipal elections.

Al-Madinah daily reported that her brother lost the seat in an electoral district in the east of the city for want of a few votes.

She had specifically requested him to help her brother when he went out to cast his vote.

Her fury at her husband erupted when she learned that the candidate her husband supported was the winner of the seat.

She left her husband's house in protest and decided to stay with her brother.

probably they won't divorce. it's just a fury. seen much cases like this. it will eventually calm down, but the incident has nevertheless, awaken some sleeping dogs: who is the boss in the house? who is more important to u? ur clan/tribe, or ur household?

the main negative aspect in municipal elections, is that both side try to BREAK FAMILY TIES. tempting a cousin to run against his cousin, even brother against brother. and in traditional societies, it is a dramatic change to rip apart a family/tribe without proper social, governemental protection.

I hope to God they had no kids cos I can't imagine what sort of psychological trauma they might suffer with parents like this. But hey...divorse is kind of a trend in some parts of the world =(

very common place in municipal elections, specially in small municipalities. what do u expect other than relatives running in opposite lists. the solution is time. in 2-3 months time, they will resolve their problems, and in 2-3 more electoral campains, it becomes a deja-vu. relatives will always run against each others in municipal elections. people will get used to it. specially the ones stuck in the in-between.
