Saudi women finaly get the vote!

Took a long time coming - but finaly a move in the right direction..

The decision to allow women both to vote in and contest municipal elections is an unprecedented gesture towards equality in Saudi Arabia.

In what could prove an even more significant step, the king also announced that women would be allowed to serve in the Shura Council, whose role is purely advisory but which nonetheless constitutes the most influential political body in the country outside the royal family. Until now, women had only been given a symbolic presence on the council.

Saudi scholars are saying that elected women will not be allowed to mix with men during debates.. So how will it work.. Women's views will be ignored or women representatives can debate separately and what if there is only one elected woman.

Women get voting right only when a politically overambititiouis  royality is born in (unfortunately) feminine form........go , read the history.......... rest everything is for benefit of  Royal literature  .

Sorry, but isn't Saudi a Monarchy ruled country? It has a king - and his advises - I am almost sure he aint gonna take the word of the women in his country as to who his keeps or loses.Nice words, follow up with actually elections and we might believe you.

They are actually signs of a society trying to resist change which is inevitable.

I think it's a farce, a make-up. Will they be able to elect the next king?

Hope Inshallah this step will bring them much success. Afterall even in the past women of the salaf have made valuable advisers to their governors and military heads!
