School Forces Pregnancy Tests On Girls
This is interesting... A school is trying to force students to take pregnancy tests and exclude those who are pregnant Or Refuse
Delhi Charter School in Louisiana which has 600 students, says it "places high expectations" on its pupils. In its manual, the school states:
"If an administrator or teacher suspects a student is pregnant, a parent conference will be held. The school reserves the right to require any female student to take a pregnancy test to confirm whether or not the suspected student is in fact pregnant.
"If the test indications that the student is pregnant, the student will not be permitted to attend classes on the campus of Delhi Charter School.
"Any student who is suspected of being pregnant and who refuses to submit to a pregnancy test shall be treated as a pregnant student and will be offered home study opportunities.
"If home study opportunities are not acceptable, the student will be counselled to seek other educational opportunities."
Now, pro-rights campaigner the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has written a public letter to the school demanding the policy be removed immediately.

Well, it is certainly not the reason that I have set Oscar Wilde's photo as my display picture. I love the man for his amazing literary works and I have always been fascinated by his style.
That he was a homosexual is of little, if any, consequence as far as I am concerned. My name is purely a pseudonym and I chose it because I idealize a person with that name.
I liked your comments about the monkey. I guess it is just nature that has to blame. If it is a monkey, monkeying with others' matters is to be its business. He keeps on criticizing my posts (stories), although I never spoke word with him. But then I am not going to expect the behavior of a fully evolved homo sapiens of him. Now, am I?
BG dnt be tht rude moza just want to fill luv in ur empty life pls accept her...:D
stop hijacking i know ur literally bored :/
Yes we realise you miss LP. He also has different views to you, but I think he just likes to ignore you. However I have hope you will shed your intolerance of others and support equality, freedom of choice and freedom for all
sometimes LP's sudden absence just makes me curious i dont know if other's feel the same
PP BG is in love with hero shud be a hot news in QL
and again u have hijacked the topic after abusing segmund sorry but i wont support u in ur evil mission.
moza pls fill BG's live with love..... :D
Monkey how is that a personal attack. Do you even know who Oscar Wilde is?
For you it is hatred but really its just others that have a different view or opinion to you. Thats what I like about QL people with different view points and backgrounds. You seem though to hate anyone that deviates from your version of the truth. Such intolerance must make your life empty.
BG MODS has given warning but the negativity is still in progress in comments but no strict action mods like him
here u go making personal attacks when he cant post any more hatred forums
Interesting quote. Interesting name segmund and you appear to have a picture of one of the worlds most famous homosexuals as your avatar in Oscar Wilde. Is this because you support gay rights?
agree to what u said but the saying was odd :(
Such people are often, attention seeking. When they fail to catch the attention of others through other means, they resort to attacking religion. They know they are not doing the right thing, but still they do so--- just to catch attention. There is a proverb in my native language that goes something like this: A man could not be able to get famous, he attempted to urinate inside the mosque!
Errr hapy, I mentioned Christianity in this thread for their discriminatory policies, (although it is not the case in this subject) and if you look at my other posts I talk about other religions as well. (not just religion but others who seek to oppress).
It seems to me your view is myopic. My posts are consistent and do not attack any particular person, group or religion. They are against the oppressors, the intolerant and the abusive.
MIH your obsession with denigrating Islam, musim countries & culture is obvious. I am not a particularly religious person and have little interest in mine is better than urs debates but ur constant digs on muslims is disgusting. I havent seen u mention that some religions burn widows to death or some chop off privates of kids for magic.
As for the topic goes, i think forced testing for pregnancy is violation of basic rights. No one shud be allowed to do that.
The school is state-supported and does not state on its homepage anything about religion or religion motivating their policies. Of course, if it did, the school like this would not be able to receive government funds in the U.S.
That is not to say the individuals behind the policy do not have a personal religious motivation.
Either way, it's a stupid policy.
Sorry Brit you are right, being I the south I suspected some branch of Christianity was behind this oppressing pupils. However it's still discriminatory and a public funded body!
Nice article about one woman's struggle to get an education and how she was humiliated.
http://richarddawkins.net/articles/646706-delhi-charter-school-stop-discriminating-against-pregnant-students
There is nothing in the articles that suggests that it is driven by religious fanatics..
Is it possible that the school sees it as a means of getting students to focus on education but also take care to use contraceptives.
Another good point bachus. It is a stupid policy driven by the religious fanatics in the US. It has no place in a civilised society.
Also, what if the student is married?
They should also think about having pregnancy test on the female teachers too. Lol.
If the girl says a particular male student is the father, the burden of proof would fall upon him.
My point is not to advocate this policy but to point out the hypocrisy of the policy--which I oppose wholeheartedly.
What if the pregnancy is the result of rape, incest, etc. and the girl's religious beliefs do not allow abortion in these instances. Will the school then expel her at a time which she needs its support more than ever?
The school is more worried about AIDS than promoting education.
A school has no business to force such a test on its female students. I feel the rules on such things should be aligned with the law of the land. If its legal, it should be fine for the school and if its not, then the law should take its course.
However, a good school should make options available for pregnant students to continue education either in school or from home on private tuition, exams to be conducted by the school at the end of the current semester.
Good point bachus, but how wold you do a paternity test and to how many girls?
This is indeed the issue. Boys are let off for their "misdemeanours"..
I suppose the girl has to bear the responsibility..
What about the boys at the school? Do they have to take paternity tests and expelled if they are refused?
Double standard if not.
LP was right this is irrelevant topic MODS shud take action or shud be posted in religious topic ppl waiting for bashing
LP was right this is irrelevant topic MODS shud ake action or shud be posted in religious topic ppl waiting for bashing
LP was right this is irrelevant topic MODS shud ake action or shud be posted in religious topic ppl waiting for bashing
This topic should be in religious teachings
who said she is male she is beautiful qatari female with a very good heart as per her profile iam not the MODS to confirm the truth
How could you be certain this person is a female and not a male. It is easy to evade reprimand at the hand of MODS, that way. He would have been long thrown out, had he been a guy.
moza always like these kind of threads and she specially prepare to comments which wud insult other community and she wud support LP
Please don't be so narrow minded hapy and self centred. I'm accused of hating everyone and everything!
This poster who goes by nick of mozaismyhero has hatred of Islam. I wonder why are u so hypocritical and keep living in a muslim country. You will not waste any chance of taking a dig on Islam or muslims. And stoning is not the punishment of being found pregnant. Get a life.
You're right LP. Under certain belief those found to be pregnant should be stoned to death for sex outside of marriage. Others would say that is wrong. Too controversial.
It's humiliating, brit.
until the MODS delete the thread, It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on the topic.
do you not think that by adopting this policy, the school is trying to instill discipline and self control in the students ?
This is a "controversial" thread and those are NOT allowed on QL according to the mods warning to another QL user. Double standards again???
home schooling is the best option for her. she won't be feeling weird and it won't give the other students neither something to pick on nor something to follow.
No this is not a revision of the policy..
So some girl is pregnant and the best they can do is deny her education. I would suggest she needs help and support, rather than being kept in educational poverty with her offspring doomed to repeat her mistakes
Is this a revision of the manual? I'm trying to find in the news if it's a revision but can't find an answer.
@britey, unless the student is pregnant and scared that she might be expelled from the school and her parents doesn't know about it yet..
LP went to Romania for Eid Celebrations :P
what has this got to do with qatar and qatar living ( on behalf of LP )
Unless what ?
@britey, i don't see something wrong by subjecting to pregnancy test.unless......
It is not a Catholic School, but does have "high risk" children..
@britey, i think it only happens to Catholic Schools run by Priests or Nuns. Back home i studied in a Catholic School that have a very strict rules.if the student is suspected pregnant or they got pregnant out-of-wedlock, they are not permitted to continue their studies or if not expelled from the school.
Delhi School has it's own rules and policies, so i think the parents should be happy with it. (At least they will know if their daughter/s is pregnant or not :) isn't it?)
BG: BINGO!! i was looking for same too!
where is LP's comment irrelevant to qatar living
