Stray Cats

We have a couple of stray cats hanging around the lift area in the underground carpark of our apartment building and people have started feeding them. They now come up to you and hiss at you if you do not feed them. They look very sickly and on deaths door - is there someone that you can call to come and take them away.

The government clinic is located on Wakra road, where Parachute roundabout used to be. Dirctions: from the a'port towards Wakra. After the first traffic light go onto the sliproad before the next traffic light. The clinic is the last building on your right just before the lights. Get into the little street between the last buildings and turn into the gate on your left. Go to the other side of the building. There is a sign, Small animals. Or just ask anybody. Cats need to be dropped off before 10 am. Clinic timings 7am - 1pm. Sun - thu.Everybody is very friendly & helpfull!

and catch, neuter these animals, it would definitely help decrease the number of feral cats. However, another thing that needs to happen is for people to keep their cats INSIDE if they are not neutered because when they do wander outside and find another cat that is in heat, voila...few weeks later...kittens! Then some of the people just either leave the mother cat and kitten to fend for themselves. Lovely....

Use the government animal resources office, or the charity group called the Qatar Cat Coalition, both of whom catch, neuter and release feral cats to help solve this problem. If you see cats that are starving, please at least leave them some water. Food would defintiely help but then you end up with cats that won't leave your house.

Please never, NEVER abuse any animal. Those that hiss at you have most likely been abused and trying their best to defend themselves against what they have experienced in their short lives. Remember...the same God/Allah that placed you upon this planet, also placed these animals on here...respect His creations...

Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,and the eyesight to tell the difference.

What makes me so sad is that these innocent creatures have no idea why they are strays, why they starve, who no one loves them, but know how much they are hated by people who think they are so worthless :(

I find it really disturbing that people can joke about any animal being in distress as obviously I cant see you not being able to walk the streets because of stray cats!!

StudyNet I know of least 4 westerners who have been so kind hearted to take these poor victim cats back to their home country so they can give them a loving home so don't assume that they are all these diseased feral animals you claim them to be.

After all they are product of mistreatment that many experience!!

ROLF...

study net...you should change your after shave!!!

dont worry quite a few locals have their own way of de-populating stray cats with their landcruisers...

soon you will only have to worry about landcruisers and not stray cats chasing you....

Damn, there are shit loads of cats which are dabblin' & livin' in the streets in Qatar. I have seen it for the first time in my life.

I hate those cats in Qatar, they are the ugliest and thinnest cats I've ever seen in my life!

They are so thin, so scary and who knows maybe full of various diseases. I know that most of them live in the garbage cans, I mean trash bins. That's so bad!

During my firt week in Qatar, I wanted to take a walk from my hotel. The hotel where I'm livin' 's inside the street. So, I'm passing by the garbage can in the street at night when suddenly that scary, thin cats ran after me. I was so afraid, I didn't expect that.

And I didn't know that there are lots of them in that can.

Since that, I stopped walkin' in the street.

I was so afraid of that scary, thin, ugly, harmful, and full of disease cats.

But I love cats, I have two cats in my country, and while I'm in Qatar now, my sister's takin' care of them.

So, be careful of these ugly cats, Guyz, they run after you, I'm tellin' you honestly, they chased me.

There were shit loads of them.

Best to all,

Marc Eiselstein

You can call the balladiya and report the cat situation. Or, what you can do is go to the Government Animal clinic and talk to them about it. They are doing a cat sterilization program by catching the strays & giving them the operation. Or you can ask them for the cage to catch the cats yourself and take them to the clinic for the operation. This is totally free. I regularly catch the cats here around my house (I have a cage here on permanent basis) & now after Ramadan I will start again. This way I am sure that the cats have been "caught & done". After the ops they become fatter and healthier!

These cats are neither pregnant nor humongous. The ones that are well endowed are Persian . They came by ship thru RasLaffan. Not to mention the thin ones are Native Qatari.

Thanx, for feeling the overwhelming compassion!. I really meant, such beautiful cats should not be left in the streets to ravage the trash. They should be taken as pets, or there should be an orphanage for the unfortunate ones who are not adopted by a good home.

One evening I dropped a fruit juice bottle in a Trash bin near Jaidah bridge. And guess what, a cat leapt out of the trash bin like a jack-in-the-box and brushed my shoulder. My heart stopped a beat and I was completely thrown off balance. I had to step down to the street to restore my balance. Luckily I was not run down by a car. From then on thanks to the cats, I always inspect the trash bins properly before throwing something inside and if its too high , I take a few steps back and aim for the trash bin from a distance.
