Sundays are actually Mondays in Qatar?

Manna Pro
By Manna Pro

Someone told me that Sundays are actually Mondays in Qatar? I can take a lot, I can handle drastic changes in climate, food and customs but I can't handle them changing the days of the week on me. For religious reasons I cannot work on Sundays. I follow football religiously and will have to be home on Sundays to watch it. I don't know who's making the rules there, but I'll only be in the office on Tuesdays through Thursdays.

Sunday mornings are very special to me

The photo of the newspaper (newspaper dated 20th April) according to the camera was taken 2009:01:06 12:42:48

The photo of the elephant was dated 2 days earlier 2009:01:04 07:39:56 which would make it 18th April

The photo you took just now is dated 2009:01:08 which would make it 22nd April not 30th April

Oh dear, x3. The law is rather different in the Gulf. It's fluid and situational. If he speaks Arabic, if he is well-connected, if you insulted him, you are in the wrong. My husband used to laugh at me. When someone would do something I found inappropriate I would say indignantly, "You wasted my TIME!" They would never get it. It's an unknown concept. Oh, dear, oh, dear, oh dear! EVERYTHING closes! Sunrise to sunset. And as a non-Muslim you cannot be seen eating or drinking or smoking by a Muslim who may have you arrested! I close the curtains in my kitchen during Ramadan (not that we have neighbors very close.) I turn down my music. My husband locks his office door at lunch. No alcohol is served or sold for a month! (Cultivate friends.) The only food served is in hospitals (now, how did I know that? lol) At close to sunset, people crazed with hunger and thirst drive like mad men to their fast-breaking destinations. God forbid you get in anyone's way. Or look at anyone cross-eyed during the month. We ALL tend to be VERY crabby! There are no parties, no bars open (wouldn't know), but the good news is you can probably go to Popeyes VERY late at night. The population stays up until 2 am or later. Oh, and forget about your Muslim friends at work. They get reduced hours and tend not to be at their most productive. Try teaching students who haven't eaten, drunk or slept. (I'm being very earnest here, were you just kidding, or "taking the piss as the brits say?)

One of the gals had learned Arabic and heard him laugh about it. I mean, I Iove this place, but to quote Ann LaMotte, somedays it would "make Jesus drink gin straight out of the cat's bowl." The daily frustrations really do add up. I've always said, I'm never suicidal in Doha, only homicidal.

Ya know what, Jason and alien, I've missed over-the-top, in your face American humor. If you don't get it, then fine. It's a cultural thing. I've listened - and learned - to a lot of national and cultural nuance here on QL. You could do the same. Or not.

Qatar is like no place on earth. sort your attitude out. long and short of it is dont come here. you just sound like another narrow minded american, no offence to americans reading this. plus who cares about a sport where grown men have to wear helmets and pads, to protect themselves.

You do realize that football would be aired around say, 11:00 pm, midnight or later, do to the 8 hour difference between here and the States.

So you can totally go to work and then come home and watch football.
