Taxi costs / Visit to Doha

Ducks
By Ducks

Hey

I plan on staying in the YHA hostel in Doha, which is on Al-Lakta Makka Street.

How much costs a taxi to the city center? Can't afford the 3-5 star hotels, so 100 QAR in a hostel will do it for me....if the cab to the city center does not ruin me :D

Cheers

Markus

at City Center.    If you want budget and a more authentic, unique shopping experience you must go to the souqs.   Souq Waqif is a must.

when i read hostel and Al Lakta Makka street, for a second i thought they were not in Qatar. I've never heard about hostels and that street in this country. But anyways, the taxis r expensive here. Althou u can use the buses.

Problem is that the company pays the flight, it's booked already for Doha.

But I could rent a car, sounds like a possibility...but I read that driving in Doha is not always easy :D

Now for the beach you will have to get out of town - you could take a bus but will take ages

Desert - same you need your own transport

If you want desert and beach and sightseeing have you thought of going to Jordan?

good value for money and great on all the things you fancy doing and geared up for the back packer.

hey man if u think that karwa's taxi not expensive to u so just go in it and don't ask this question. if u wanna save stay at city center; this way u don't have to use taxi except when u wanna leave qatar. just Kidding But in my opinion Karwa is expensive.  cheers

No, haven't booked yet...will call them this afternoon.

What I would like to do (5 days time)

- Going to the desert (never seen before)

- Spend a day or 2 or 3 at the beach

- Some shopping

- Sightseeing (if there is somethin to see...)

Are there other things I really should do while in Doha?

We could help you more if we knew what you want to see/do in Doha....

then tell you how to do in the cheapest way.

Have you booked the hostel?

Make sure you do because actually it is often aimed a groups of young visitors - school parties etc

check they arent' booked

If it helps as a comparison, taxis here are cheap compared with the UK.

Do't get me wrong...it's not that I blindly chose Doha and had no idea about the price level - I knew it was more expensive than other places.

But I'm a backpacker at heart, and I love to live simple...so I try to combine Doha and my mindset :)

Taxi seems not expensive to me...

edit: Array, PM is sent :D

hostels or hotels.... you have no choice but to spend more on lodging and transport in here...

never tried Karwas, karwa taxis may charge you between QAR 17 - 27 .. Karwa buses will take you there for 2, 3 riyals

By Ducks• 10 Apr 2008 12:15

Well...I realized that :) But I rather spend my money for souvenirs or gifts for my family than for a hotel. Seems like a waste of money to me, to life in an expensive hotel. All I need is a bed, i don't need much.

No, did not book the hostel yet...still 4 weeks to go. I'm just in Qatar because I have a stop-over there...have to work in Sri Lanka for a week, and have never been to the arabic region. So I thought I might as well spend some days in Doha...

LOL - exactly....

ducks what is the purpose of coming to Qatar ?  its not for the budget traveller.

Have you booked the hostel?

By Ducks• 10 Apr 2008 12:08
Ducks

I was just asking :) I did not write that it WILL, I just put an IF ;)

If cabs are expensive, I rather take a hotel closer to the city center and save money with less less taxis...you see? That's what I wanted to say...

If you can't afford a taxi to the City Center how will you afford anything they sell?
