Hello friends,
How about a head count on the number of members who are also crazy about rock?

I'm surely one of them and am particularly interested in Classic Rock.
My favourite bands are Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam and Pink Floyd.
My range includes the like of GNR, Soundgarden, Nirvana, The Foo Fighters,.....the list goes on and on.

And of course, as the name of this forum suggests, AC/DC absolutely rocks!

Dancing like this:

to the right, to the right 1-2 steps & to the left to the left 1-2 steps, bend forward then backward then turn to the right and continue same steps. Get me? he heee :)))))

Btw, I didn't knew esalvo is a madam?

Great stuff, Mez.

So you saw Bonzo bang the hell out of the drums!

You're quite lucky. Yes were a great band.

By Mez• 10 May 2007 02:34

but thought I'd just like to mention that I saw Led Zeppelin live in London in the 70s - played for three and a half hours, no support. I was deaf for a week!! A half hour drum solo did take up some time so the others could go off for a beer!!

Also saw Queen live in Hyde Park in a free concert.

Plus Nirvana in Oregon in January 1994.

How lucky am I????

Actually, not a huge fan of the really heavy head banging rock - always a touch of hippie in me so leant towards Pink Floyd, Yes, SAAB. Huge range of tastes though and LOVE dance music too - Chemical Brothers, Faithless, FatBoy Slim, etc.

Hi there e46M3,

Sorry for the delay....

As sad as it seems my lack of imagination sent me googling onto the Rockstar Name Generator. If you put in Doha City it comes out with "Hell Pootle" As great as that seems, I just don't think I could be known as a Pootler.

What about instead:

Comfortably Numb in Doha

Qatar Immigrants (Song)

Blood, Sugar, Sex, Doha

BadDohaFinger

Doha Follies and the Infinite Sadness

Well, just a couple of (yup, pretty poor, I know...) suggestions. Someone out there must be able to do better...

Headless Cross

Look through the people, and on through the mist

to the hill of the headless cross

Where all witches meet, on a night such as this

and the power of darkness is host

They come face to face, eye to eye, soul to soul

with and Angel that fell from the sky

Borne on the air, the screams and the wails

of the masses appointed to die

Listen for the feet as they pound the land to a tune of thunder

Watch as the legions ride again to a fate of death or torture

At the Headless Cross, at the Headless Cross

From the first evil night, when a black flash of light

cut the crucifix half to the ground

There's been no escape from the power of Satan

on a nation so brave and so proud

Listen for the feet as they pound the land to a tune of thunder

Watch as the legions ride again to a fate of death or torture

At the Headless Cross, at the Headless Cross

How do you feel, when the locks refuse the key

and the master is calling your name

Does the luck of the charm, really keep you from harm?

does the talisman protect you from pain?

Listen for the feet as they pound the land to a tune of thunder

Watch as the legions ride again to a fate of death or torture

At the Headless Cross, at the Headless Cross

From the first evil night, when a black flash of light

cut the crucifix half to the ground

There's no escaping the power of Satan

on a nation so brave and so proud

Listen for the feet as they pound the land to a tune of thunder

Watch as the legions ride again to a fate of death or torture, oh no, oh

At the Headless Cross, at the Headless Cross

At the Headless Cross, oh, at the Headless Cross

Where will you run to?

At the Headless Cross

Look, to the Headless Cross.

Classic early Queen.

The "Beast from the Middle East" idea is a derivation of the Dokken live album "Beast from the East" cataloging their concerts in Japan, so wholly apt.

Sounds pretty good for a name to me but Im sure could be misinterpreted! Great to see some likeminded metal heads in Doha. Count me in, would love to meet up for some great rock.

A big fan of a wide range of rock, the classics are always good, Led Zep, Deep Purple (Ian Gillan still one of the best vocalists around and then followed up with Coverdale!) early Queen, Cream, Hendrix all the usual suspects. Some 90's music - Rage Against the Machine, Smashing Pumpkins were great and nowadays Queens of the Stoneage, Automatics and Tool still carrying on.

Let me know when the club starts up. Need to order my neck brace for the day after the headbanging....

By Kaizer Soze• 3 May 2007 14:20

Actually the Malmsteen suggestion was the joker in the pack. I never liked him - pompous, over-rated, and although an excellent technician, didn't write many good songs at all. I prefer guitarists such as Steve Vai and Jake Lee personally. Even Joe Satriani was a bit too 'way out' for me.....

Anyway I digress. Classic Rock tracks - "Child in Time", "Dream On", "Bringin' on the Heartbreak", "Holiday" - each on a 24 carat nugget!

By e46M3• 3 May 2007 13:45
e46M3

Impressive list. Let's vote on that too.

I'll pass on Yngwie. I went to a concert once, he was opening for someone, not sure if it was Maiden or AC/DC, and we were hanging out by the service/band entrance ramp waiting to get autographs. In the time-honored rock tradition a limo pulls up, out comes Yngwie flanked by 2 groupies who didn't look too friend from the model in the You Shook Me All Night Long video.

5 minutes later his band arrives... In a cab. I kid you not.

And he barely glanced at us.

I didn't waste anytime or money on him afterwards.

Guys, on a different note what's your favorite epic in the Stairway to Heaven/Free Bird grain?

I like Blackfoot's Highway Song.

saw a lot of rock concert in the 80/90's back when i was in the states. Dev Leppard,Metallica,GnR, Scorpions... they really rocks

Just to avoid confusion, I claim to be the oldest teenager in town. Around 1969 I was working in a music shop in Liverpool, when one of the young guys came in (I was a mature 20 year old)and told us all that he had seen this incredible band last night at Renshaw Hall called Roxy Music......WHO???

On another day, on walking into the guitar dept, I asked one of the youngsters why he din't say hello to Cat Stevens who was trying out a guitar.

I was at Liverpool Stadium watching Free who were at No 1 with All Right Now, when Paul Rogers opened the show by telling us that Hendrix had just died.

There've been good times.....

A garage band. Good idea, but we need a proper garage.

Let's see who's into what. Headbanging club or a garage band.

My 10-year-old is just starting to play Smoke on the Water. Really happy to see him interested in the guitar.

Hawkwind. That's good stuff.

Han19, you know there's blues rock. It doesn't have to be the put you to sleep type. Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan spring to mind. Actually AC/DC's rock is heavily influenced by the blues.

Thank mate I will get them and have a listen.

Start that club.

Have you got a garage?

My son [9 years old] first music favourite was Micheal Jackson, but we'll forgive him that he was only 5.

His second one was Hawkwind, GO ED.

Right now he is into Trivium.

I have taken him to see them twice.

Proper little rocker.

Guys, we should start a headbangers' club!

I was beginning to feel abandoned in Qatar.

What people don't understand about rock music is that it lasts and lasts. I have this awesome clip of Deep Purple playing Smoke on the Water live and the band is old and so are many of the fans. It's great to see the fans grow old with the band.

I used to be told "you'll outgrow it" but now it's ingrained into my soul. And my kids love it too.

I love the blues too. Clapton matures like a good wine.

By the way, both Clapton and Angus have a Myspace page!

Highlights, Queen at live aid, Metallica at Hammy O, Maiden at Monsters of Rock (Donnington) and Deep Purple (Mk2) reformed at Knebworth, as well as ACDC several times at Wembley, GNR at Wembley...

On that note, don't get too excited about their new album - Axl Rose isn't the same without Slash, Izzy and the other original guys.

It's an absolute firecracker. So powerful. Die Young is another gem on H&H. Some people discount Dio's time with Sabbath But I love the stuff he did with them. Voodoo is also another favorite.

You have made my day.

You are the only other person I know who not only knows, but likes Neon Knights.

Gonna play that tonight, to celebrate Liverpools victory.

I'm not sure if all you people have heard about 'Chinese Democracy'.

Yup! The enigmatic GNR album that Axl has been working on for the past 7 odd years and is yet to be released.

Last I heard they had finished recording and begun mixing (phew!).

Any updates anyone?

Nice to see some Rock fans in Qatar!!!

I love Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, GNR, Queen, Metallica, Nirvana, and many more....

One thing about good old Rock music is that they never die..they live on 'til today...unlike most new age songs/bands where today we hear the band name and tomorrow they dissapear to GKW (God Knows Where)!

Rock On!

I am with you 100% on the Young brothers and their High Voltage colleagues!

Hard rock through and through: Deep Purple, Rainbow, Dio, AC/DC, Maiden, Leppard, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Scorpions, GNR, Motley Crue, Metallica.....to name but a few.

On the softer side: Queen, Bon Jovi, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Foreigner

And I've been lucky enough to see most of these bands live - AWESOME!
