Ah yes, water is a blessing isn't it. Try to go even a day without it. Must be absolutely dreadful to have to seek water every day. We are blessed indeed.
Woooo...knoxcollege...nice number! 4 digits with 3 digits the same. Was that recently...because that kind of number is worth more than that nowadays...why didn't you let me know harumph!_______________________________________________________
PM, the stories about Qatar before A/C are good too! Wow, hot, hot, hot...although the way houses were built with wind vents cooled the rooms somewhat.
We're spoiled rotten these days!
I always encourage my children to run around and play outside all throught the year. Don't want them to become namby pamby AC junkies. They are genetically predisposed to cope well with extreme heat! _______________________________________________________
Salam PM, it's something of s status symbol here. The best numbers are actually owned by the people who bought cars way back when before there were so many numbers on the road.
in Ontario-Canada, you can put whatever you want on your plates, within 8 digits (any name, any words, numbers, letters, etc.) for only 200 bucks...lol...you even can see something like "bitch-1" with the beautiful girl inside of Jaguar...Or immigrants from other countries like to put some bad words in their languages, anyway not too many other people can understand it..lol...and all this fun just for $200...
now I am not surprised that they charge QR3000 for not keeping distance of 2 meters between cars.. They just cannot count money properly, i guess...for them it's all the same: 1,500... 15,000...150,000.. kullo wahad!
this number plate buying goes on in many countries, I wasn't specifying Qatar.
People are free to buy what they want but to me to pay that much, and more in some countries, for a piece of metal with no value in itself just feels wrong.

Hi Adey, I'm not justifying it for evveryone but one doesn't know how much they may be giving to charity as well as buying numbers. Qatar is known as a charitable country and many, many of its citizens are very giving in monetary ways.
I guess it's the wealthy Qataris who would be paying for ETR numbers like this. And every so often they auction off these kinds of numbers for charity.
If anyone has 150 000 to waste on a 3 digit number plate they should be forced to donate the same amount towards a worthwhile project to lift the poor out of poverty IMHO.
How can someone account for something this trivial & extravagant on their judgment day?
Come the revolution!!

Gypsy Gal, numbers that will fetch lots of money have less numbers. For example if you have a three digit car number (eg, 472) that would probably fetch you at least QR 150 000. More if it has a repition of digit or ascending or descending numbers (eg, 345) Your number has five digits but with an 89, a 2 and a 22 in it. I'm guessing at least QR 10 000 or more. Repition of numbers puts the price up, the more repition the higher the price. Three digit numbers are rarely for sale, four digit numbers are over QR 15 000 now and that's for a run of the mill one with no repitions etc.
The same applies to mobile phone numbers. Repition of numbers will bring you a high price.
It's a really popular thing to do here amongst the locals(maybe some expats too...don't know) to have ETR (Easy To Remember) numbers on cars and phones.
If you look at the supplements that come with some Arabic newspapers you'll see pages of ads on this subject. If you call and ask how much a certain number is you'll be told how high someone has offered so you can bid higher if you wish.
to be honest, i have broken a traffic rule once, and I knew that i am doing wrong(i was soooo in hurry!!), and policeman stopped me... but he was so kind! he let me go...but i promissed that i will never ever do it again!
You shouldn't be surprised if you found out that he went scot free without having to pay a penny. Just a few warm hugs and greetings in the local dialect might help him walk out of the penalty. An expat would be made to strip in his place.
I always wondered why they are buying numbers for such big money? what makes a number special? is that the number of repetitions? less digits? 28922 is that a special number? lol

The More You Can Waste.......(Easy come easy go).
I also sold my four digit number with three same digits for 20 thousand Qatari Riyals. Anyways that guy is happy and so am I.
Adey, I suppose if you were a billionaire who gave millions to charity it may seem like not much money.
Oh, now I am justifying it, aren''t I?!
Can't help it, I just love those ETR numbers :) _______________________________________________________

to be honest, i have broken a traffic rule once, and I knew that i am doing wrong(i was soooo in hurry!!), and policeman stopped me... but he was so kind! he let me go...but i promissed that i will never ever do it again!
May be his father/uncle is the head of traffic dept and he can get away without paying a penny. Anything is possible... ITS QATAR!
violations of the guy!
QR 13,000 and ED 8,800.
Shouldnt we felicitate the guy in some way?
how soon after the violation it comes to the web site? How long it takes: 1 hour,1 day,1 week?
You shouldn't be surprised if you found out that he went scot free without having to pay a penny. Just a few warm hugs and greetings in the local dialect might help him walk out of the penalty. An expat would be made to strip in his place.
such a wonderful charge list A SLAP ON TRAFFIC DEPT FACE BY A LOCAL.

This guy should be banned from driving for life.

He could raise the money (if he needed to!!!) by selling that car number. A number like that will fetch you thousands and thousands of riyals :)
