5 countries issue travel advisories against India

NEW DELHI: One after another, five countries - US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand - have issued advisories against travel to India during the festival season. The ostensible reason for the caution is terror threat at this time, but the Indian government isn't impressed. It fears the advisories will create a scare about visiting India.

"I have taken up this with the external affairs ministry and asked it to persuade these countries to withdraw the travel advisories immediately,. "This is nothing but scaremongering.

and most travellers do a bit of their own research before travelling, I would travel to India at the moment no worries....as you said previously no need to take this personally

There is absolutely nothing wrong in warning your citizens about the possible dangers. It's the their prerogative to choose to travel with acceptable risks.

The govt of India just talks and has accepted that it is not possible to stop bomb blasts/ terrorism in India. So based on Indian govt's. incompetence, those 5 countries have issued the travel advisory.

If India wants to attract tourists then it has to improve everything from rugged roads to filthy airports to one's security.

I am a born and bred Indian and ignoring these facts won't help nothing :-(

well said Colt, you hit the nail on the head. Responsible countries should advise their citizens when travelling abroad, if a citizen has the facts they can make an informed decision.

In India only leaders of political parties are protected as they enjoy the XYZ categories of security and almost 3/4th of the Police force and Commandos are busy saving the lives of these effed up leaders.

So the common people are open to terror threats and are soft targets to the trained terrorists. So far no leader has been hurt in any of the bomb blasts in our country. Hence, when our Govt. is not worried about the safety of our people, the foreign tourists are also at risk.

Hence, the warning issued by these countries. There is nothing wrong in that, and need not be personalised, as these country value their citizens.

The purpose of a travel advisory is to enable travelers make an informed decision about a particular travel destination.

The 5 countries may have their reasons for those advisories, but personally, I feel safer in India than I feel in certain parts of the developed world after sundown.

The German Bakery Resultant, where I used to go to when I visited India was bombed in 2010. So yep I think these warnings valid and for the right reasons.

So how about metallica? Would they cancel their concert in India and come to Qatar instead? :p

the problem with this americans is that they think India is just another state like Texas. They act like they know it all. Bush did not even know whether the Taj Mahal was in India or Malaysia. They think that Iraq and Afghanistan are the safest places just because the americans happen to have their troops there.

On 17 April 2010 two explosions outside a cricket stadium immediately prior to the commencement of an Indian Premier League match in Bangalore injured eight members of the security forces.

On 13 February 2010, a bomb exploded at the German Bakery in the Koregaon Park area of Pune, 100km south-east of Mumbai. Sixteen people, including three foreigners, were killed and 70 were injured. The bakery is well-known and popular with Westerners.

In November 2008 more than 170 people, including two Australians, were killed in a series of coordinated attacks targeting places frequented by foreigners in Mumbai. ..and to imagine when 9/11 was underway and the americans were running scared and their president was in hiding or recently when the whole of London was burning and out of control but none of this above nations were issuing any travel advisories but they seem to be more then quick and very selective when minor things happen in say China, India or other parts of Asia.

India should impose ban on every kind of goods to be exported to USA and any kind of travel.... :)So that they can face some losses financially too to get their mind back on their ground zero level....
