Violence against women

Good! Since there appears to be huge numbers here, do warn your countrymen. Like the creeps who follow me or the ones who walk in front of my car, daring me to run them down, or trying to show that they are stronger than me. Of course they are stronger physically, and that's what scares me.

Top priority’ for tackling violence against women

Brig al-Ateeq ... ’violence has to be stopped’

A SENIOR official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs has described violence against women as a violation of fundamental human rights...

... the Ministry of Interior gave high priority to care for women. .. Violence against women is a phenomenon seen in all societies and this represents the violation of human rights,” he said.

He observed that Qatar was giving high priority for combating all types of violence, particularly against women, by establishing many civil and official organisations in which the SCFA is in the front line.

Brig al-Ateeq mentioned that the Emiri decree for the establishment of National Human Rights Committee showed the concern of the country’s leadership to promote human rights.

The decree No 26, 2005 issued by the Minister of State for Internal Affairs HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani, established a human rights department at the ministry.

That was the headline.. but more importantly is the establishment of the National Human Rights Council. So this is the avenue for redress, for grievances to be heard.

On another note, what I've hearing are one sided comments about certain quarters being ill treated while Qataris get away scot free. But I notice that the newspapers (I've only read the Gulf Times in these past 2 days) have reported instances where Qataris have been convicted and sentenced - eg. the one about the Qatari who impersonated a police officer to cheat and steal QR3,840 from Bangladeshi workers. Another report about another Qatari being taken action against - so, can't say that the laws are prejudiced and one sided. Perceptions not based on fact could be skewered.
