God's own country: The earliest recorded use of this phrase was first applied to New Zealand and was the title of a poem about New Zealand .

Funny Brit - my Caribbean family went for my brother's wedding in L-town, my mom eventually bursted out on day 3 - "ok seriously, THIS is summer?" :)

We had 2 non-rainy days... all good though :)

Now I know you are making this up. We don't have 10 days of summer in the UK :O)

Miss. Poached, A crucial question..Where exactly did you stay in India?Did you put your feet in Kerala? Or were you in the Northern part of India.

I am sorry you did'nt like it at all. But then I hated UK when I stayed there for about 10 days in summer..It happens. Nothing to do with the places, but with our attituides actually..

Tah I don't have a previous ID.

Brit to be honest - I hated India - some nice people but I hated it. Hated the racism, sect culture, poverty and the 'posh Indians'.

Sorry if that sounds racist but that is what I felt after living there.

I have lived in other country's too and they were just as bad.

usually, the idea is to have a break and experience something different. i agree that visiting is not the same as long term stay, but did you enjoy yourself ?

Sorry, it does not. It's like any other pretentious advert for tourists.

I had to live there for 18 months........it is not like that at all. It's dirty, smelly and corrupt....a bit like the rest of India.............and other parts of the world to be honest.

Go as a tourist for 2 weeks and they will fool you - just like India, Thailand, Malaysia, England and the USA.......what you see is not what you get.

Had been to Kerala this year..visited Cherai Beach Resort in Kochi, Munnar tea gardens, Thekkadi wild life resort, Allepey House Boat ride, Trivendram beaches like kovalam etc.

Overall it was a lovely experience..No doubt it's so green and beautiful that you can call it God's own country!!

Just wondering if that was Gods own country then why are all those gods own guys out here in the Gulf. Has it anything to do with spiritual enlightenment or just about preaching the word of god wide and far

And yes I quite liked the place. Actually a lot! Visiting my late grandpa's (who I never met cos he died really young) village was lovely. Meeting all my relatives there, sightseeing, and tasting the regional dishes were among the highlights of our brief but very enjoyable stay in Kerala. Would love to revisit again for sure!

Can someone explain the history behind the words "Gods own Country" as when referring to Kerela?

By gmz21• 16 Dec 2012 08:38

In all honesty a lot of religions don't get respect because people tend to know nothing about them. If Hindu's actually explained the reason why the cow is scared, which is because cows give milk which is white. In Hindu white is believed to be the most scared color, and that color is a representation of god. To any Hindus if I got it wrong please tell me what I got wrong, I don't want to be an ignorant in terms of peoples beliefs.
