Wearing strappy tops - the ladies!
I'm some what confused as to what is acceptable attire when I arrive in Doha. I probably know what you are all saying, "We've had this one before!"
Currently here in the UK which is around 35 degrees at the mo, I wear smart strappy tops (aka spaghetti tops) as part of my working wear. Would I get away with wearing these little strappy tops which cover up my belly but show my shoulders. (For those of you wondering: no, I show no cleavage as the top comes horisontal across my chest - so no worries there!)
Also short? Can they be above the knee?
Sorry for the silly questions but Ive heard via the grapevine that ladies should never show their shoulders or knees....Im hoping these will be little myths....
 Thanks
C
DG, there is a really awesome monastery in the mountains of my country. I think you'll do great there. It's men only! :P :P
Cat!!!! you said you wouldn't tell anyone that. I told you I can't do tequila shots!!! Especially off of your chest, but you just wouldn't listen.
Yes, Amazingly, even with that tactic I still couldn't get a man. :( Sigh, I will just have to sign up for the Nunnery.
Ladies, thank you for this. I know that my wife was curious.
Don
We had a great time even though we had to act like we didn't know DG. Major hangover today ;-)
Now that would have been funny.
Glad you had a good time :)
hahahaha wait till she read this
Don't listen to DG. She was an embarrassment. She tried to sit on every guy's lap (even those that were standing), and ended up being thrown out of the establishment by an angry bouncer (who she tried to kiss, too).
:P
I had lots of fun last night with Cat and Mocha, they are fun chicks. You should come and join us for coffee sometime.
I didn't try the technique, didn't need too. I had a wonderful offer from some guy who asked me ;) "I wanted to go do something entertaining, you know, like get out of here." I laughed in his face and walked away. Typical night at Rydges. ;D
I guess it depends on what you mean by "there is no problem." Nobody will throw you in jail or probably even say anything to you if you wear strappy tops or tiny shorts -- but it's definitely very rude.
DG
How did it go? Did you try the tecnique last nigh? You know, the sit in his lap-make him look the other way-kisskisskisskisskiss????
thanks for that....I simply needed clarification....I wouldnt want to go out and be hounded out by prying eyes or even the police!! LOL!
Ive decided to bring along a couple of just over the knee lenght smart shorts for work but I recon longsleeves or 3/ 4 sleeves will do for the office!
Look forward to seeing the outs and abouts in tank tops...I don't think I could get half the top part of my body in one never mind the rest!!! You brave woman!!!
It was too hot at Rydges for a sweater.
Oh yeah I remember there was something else on top of your tank top... it came off soon enough though
Thanks Cat, I thought I looked pretty hot myself.
Seriously though, just cause you can wear them and some people do, doesn't neccessarily mean you should. I don't feel very comfortable in a tank top outside of at the bar.
Yeah DG you really did stand out last night in a slutty tank top! As I see it, there should be a law against it.
You know there have been complaints about the images of scantily clad/seductive women in shops and on shop bags/carriers. As a result there will be a crackdown.
Don't wear anything too revealing to work. anyway all the offices work places are air-conditioned. It's ok when you go out at night or even shopping.
As surprising as it seem there is no problem in this country of wearing ANYTHING you want I have seen low cleavage, mini shorts, really is all up to you. I think the contrast with the habayas makes it so interesting and show the acceptance of the people and the tolerance to foreign cultures.
You can wear whatever you want, there are no laws against it. However you would stand out in a bad way if you wear tank tops (especially strappy ones) or anything above the knee. For the most part the women here wear t-shirts and capris, or long shirts and sleeves, regardless of the weather.
