Hey there!

I have read all your comments with much attention and interest!!!

Qatar seems really to be on the look out for high quality products....

We are The Swiss Chocolatiers of the Desert, based in UAE and are looking for opportunities to develop our hand made Swiss Chocolates by Swiss Chocolatiers into Qatar as well!

Any suggestions from all of you? A trustworthy quality partner is sought.

La Cigale wasn't listed because I think it was opened to the public in 09, this thread was posted in 08.

Now, I've gotta go and try La Cigale's chocolate cake..:)

I can't believe no one has mentioned La Cigale and Lenotre??!! Hazelnut and choc, whiteforest, choc fudge etc etc just divine.

In my humble opinion Patissierie Suisse and Opera don't make good cakes, they taste artificial.

Bateel does a good triple choc-cake (dark, milk and white) but deceptively calls it 'victoria' cake.

Apparently Fauchon also is good, though I don't have a personal recommendation.

Aisha-Taweela- I definitely will be heading to Ma Maison for comparision purposes only ofcourse!

I tried chocolate cake by Opera, by Patisserie Suisse, by Bateel, a tiny chocolate cake by KFC as well but they are right-it's too sweet!some you can eat only icing, some only custard..U can't appreciate the flesh & finally I found a Filipino home made cake which is really perfect for the taste! I even recommended to my friends of other nationality coz she's making cakes for different occasion.

Fereej Bin Naser street near Doha clinic has several bakeries (London, Suisse). Al Sadd street has Opera near Q-tel junction. Besides usual malls like Lulu, FFC etc have their own bakeries.

We take orders for home made cakes - including chocolate cakes. Promise these are as good as anything available.

You may contact us on 6752803 if interested in home made cakes.

I concider my self the expert in cakes etc as that is my favorite food......

Patisserie Suisse is ok, their blck forest.

Bateel - mango or chees cakes are the best

But where just about every thing is finger-licking-good is at "Ma Maison" which is located near the Hummer/Mannai showroom in Al Emadi Centre near Ramada. Try them and give me your feed back. They are expensive though!

Divine chocolate cake recipe from my friend Joey, from South Africa:

Cooking Time: 40 – 45 minutes

Oven Temperature: 180 °C

Ingredients for the syrup:

1 cup sugar

1cup water

Ingredients for the mixture:

1cup cake flour

15ml baking powder

pinch of salt

250g magarine

½ cup sugar

200g dark chocolate

5 extra large eggs

30ml brandy (optional)

Topping:

200g wholenut chocolate

50ml milk

Preparation:

Syrup:

Place sugar and water in small pot and bring to boiling point.

Remove from stove and set aside.

Mixture:

Melt marg, sugar and dark chocolate over medium heat in a medium pot. (I use a double boiler.)

Sift flour, baking powder and salt together.

Beat eggs in mixing bowl and add cooled chocolate mixture.

Mix the dry ingredients with the egg and chocolate mixture.

Add brandy.

Pour into round baking tin and bake for 40 – 45min.

Pour syrup over cake as soon as it is taken from oven.

Leave in tin until completely cold.

Loosen carefully and turn onto plate.

Melt chocolate and milk and pore over cake.

This cake is very soft so it's best to bake it in a Pyrex dish

If you don't like it too sweat, skip the syrup. I normally do.

They do make big cookie cakes, though.
