So I've been here a couple of months, and I'm finally getting ready to open a bank account. But there are so many banks to choose from! Which one is best?
I am with Standart chartered... what's whrong with them? at least they TRY to do something..
..nevermind that the guy couldn't explain to me how the interest on the credit card outstanding balance is calculated... kept saying 2,5% on outstanding amount… I couldn’t get out of him is 2,5% daily, weekly, monthly, yearly? Or what??.. he kept repeating: "no, M’am, you don’t understand! it's 2,5% ON OUTSTANDING BALANCE!”… LOL… So I just came to conclusion by myself, it must be a monthly interest of 2,5%..
Nevermind that you have to teach them how to prepare a monthly statement on your credit card, and to explain what the Statement is… well all this doesn’t matter…Like MD said: where the hell do you find professional service in Qatar at all?
...But at least they TRY hard… :)

qwertyness, saving account with Commercial Bank is okay. CAr loan or so, no problem. Service is unprofessional. But where the hell do you find professional service in Qatar at all?
thanks magicDragon, I know all that and am actually in the middle of doing it. What I was wondering more was what banks other people who've lived here a while would recommend- back home for instnace there are one or two banks that are just better off avoided as their customer service is horrific or there are all sorts of strings....
A few years back I too was in your exact frame of mind, finally after a lot of reaserach, I decided to go with commericialbank qatar.
.. and I have since been a loyal customer of commercialbank qatar.. I recommend that your visit one of their numerous branches and open an account of your choice.

That's exactly what you have to find out. What do you want? A saving account, a business account, check book, credit card, short time investments, long term saving plans????? Low interest, risk free investment, high return, a portfolio for shares, a foreign currency account? Do you plan to send money back home? Once you made up your mind what exactly you want you should visit at least 4 or 5 banks and ask them for their conditions. Then you can make your choice.

they seem to have pretty low interest rates on their credit cards.
Qwertyness - Dream Points kinda suck!
HSBC - 'Blue' Airmiles as above
Commercial Bank - 1QA Airmile per QR8 spent
NBQ - 1QA airmile per QR4 spent! - much more useful than a cheap Chinese blender!
All the other banks offer pretty much same as Doha Bank. What particularly grabs you there?
Did you Google it first?
anyone heard anythign about Doha Bank? just surfing around on their site, and some of it seems almost too good to be true...
