Why?

Why is educating women in some countries considered a target?

-------

Sajila Gujjar, 18, was a first year university student studying computer science in the Pakistani city of Quetta.

Family and friends described her as talented, intelligent and determined to make a difference.

She was especially popular among younger children in the Faqirabad neighbourhood of the city where she lived - providing them with free after-school tuition classes.

Last Saturday, Sajila left her home in the morning for university.

"It was the last day of her exams and she was looking forward to her summer holidays," her mother recalls.

It was the last time her mother saw her.

In the afternoon, Sajila's father Shahjahan Gujjar, received a phone call. A female suicide bomber had been used to target the students on a university bus and 14 young women were dead including his daughter.

Try to see under the surface , no body gives birth or death to anybody , its all under His will , we humans just follow His command ...

It's destiny to decide how people are going to die as in case of people's birth.

Here starts the Bashing :D

Thelonius grow up dude..... Stick to the topic.

Why cant we have a healthy discussion? We all know what is happening where and when? Does that make a country or its people better or worst than others?

Why cant all human beings be treated equally and respectfully? Live in peace and enjoy life. See the bright side of life.

Yes Brit. In Pakistan Government dont support any particular community to kill the other one.. but in here government itself has considered them as rebels and enemies.. which makes it more complicated and would results with a huge loss..

Guys lets stick to the topic. Lets not start another religious brawl :)

Well, i wont call it a fragile country at all! No sir! Yes we are facing a lot of issues both internally and externally as well.

But look at it this way.... when was the last time you heard something great about Pakistan or a Pakistani last time in international media? :) I cant seem to remember...

As i said, every hardship that our people face, makes us more stronger. Its amazing to know how much positive the people are. Especially the youth. I was there in the elections and i saw it with my own eyes.

Things will change... infact they have already started to change... InshAllah!

In Pakistan , the attacks between sects are increasing every day.. It can destabilize an already fragile country.

Yes but in Pakistan it is not out of control.. pakistan government itself could sort it out..

In gulf yes it is going to be the next the biggest and worst agenda.. sadly US and West will use it for their own and they are doing it already..

Without wishing to divert the thread..

The Shia / Sunni issue is one of great concern across the region. It is a new way of splitting societies and making them fight each other.

This can have devastating affect , especially in the Middle East.

A common country man thinks that Government supports US drone strikes but actually Pak Government are bullied by US, IMF and World Bank as they have a huge debt.. the problem of shia-sunny is not as big as the problem of their response to US drones strikes..

Well, in general no one is against the education of women in Pakistan. I refer to Pakistan, because the subject post was about it.

Personally, I've been to the very rural areas in the north of Pakistan (troubled areas), and to my surprise lots of girls are still getting education.

Neither the culture nor the religion is against women getting educated. For me its a big plot to disrupt the society by some paid fanatics.

We all know, we are going through a very tough time as a nation, being branded as radicals and extreme people. But then that does not disappoint me. It makes us resilient. Its the majority that will rule, a majority, that has kids to take care of and get them educated.

It comes in with Brit's point. Some men in Pakistan do not want the women educated. Education means freedom and that challenges the men's authority.

with reference to the main post where do the gulf men came here..

If you have time to read you can browse the statistics about Women and education in gulf..

U cant correlate what happened in Pakistan with the gulf men.

By Rip Cord• 22 Jun 2013 13:54

Brit is right, one of the 'issues' they have in the gulf is the large number of educated women who want to work and have their own careers. They are no longer happy to just sit at home and have babies, while the gulf men want the traditional wife.

I find it hard to think what justification they can have it their mind to commit such a barbaric act.

Agree with Brit...one, they fear that one day their wives and daughters will also start challenging them. Two, instill fear in the society so that others acknowledge their supremacy.

Primitive mind-set!

That is a tragic and a barbarian incident

but

Q: Why is educating women in some countries considered a target?

A: There might be no relation between educating woman and this incident, maybe it is just a Terrorist works, but i agree, there is still some countries and individuals doesn't allow their women education, what a pity.

Tragic, cowardly and sad. Many see educating the locals, especially women as a no-no, because tomorrow they may challenge their rules and authority.

Seeing the recent history in Quetta, I personally don't see this attack a specifically aimed at girls. I think they just chose an easy target where they could do most damage.

A truly evil and senseless crime. What do the culprits hope to achieve by targeting innocent young girls? Such a bunch of cowards and losers to say the least! I cannot imagine the anguish the parents of the victims must endure. Very sad!
