Why Do People Ignore Parking Laws?

I know you all have seen it in the last, a jerk parks in a handicapped space, usually at an angle to take up two spaces, and when he gets out he is young, perfectly healthy. I see this all the time at the Al Jabra Bookstore, sitting at the coffee shop. Or at other places, like the malls, you will see them park on medians, sidewalks, etc. Do they even care at all? I find it disrespectful not only to the rest of us, but especially to the handicapped. I am especially shocked since most of them are Qatari, and I know the Quran says quite a few things about being humble, helping the less fortunate, etc.

I have to admit, having travelled all over the world, I find the level of snobbery, disrespect of others, and arrogance quite amazing. I always do the right thing and park in an authorized space, but can't help feel pissed when I see some ass**** in a Lambourghini (parked sideways) in two handicapped space. I think instead of giving them tickets, they should simply tow them and impound them for a minimum of one month. How does a government impose laws when most are rich enough to simply laugh and pay the fine? It is shameful.

All new systems go through a learning phase and Qatar is going through this now. Their disrespect comes from the fact that there were no stable traffic laws in place. Please don't always say Qataris dont' pay because they have to pay fines too.

As soon as parking lots are monitored, changes will come into effect and I hope that is soon because I have had my own car damaged in parking lots and no one will pay except me.

You're right that fines are no deterrent, but inconvenience is. I don't know the legality, but if landowners/police could put a Denver Boot on cars illegally parked, drivers would learn their lesson really quickly should it take them an hour to call someone to remove the boot and they were late for supper or coffee with their friends.

At CNA-Q, they tried parking arms but the steel camels just crash through them. So they went back to the old system: if you park illegally, you get a sign taped to your windshield that basically says, "If you park here again, I'm going to tell my boss!" Doesn't get much stronger than that!

well it is a sad but true scenario .. the problem being the shortage of police on patrol probably .. to give the offender a fine or tow away his car .. we see it and we are helpless and are unable to do anything about it .. there are so many other violations that people commit but go unnoticed .. just that its not being monitored .. they need to come up with a system which would be effective enough like assigning junior traffic officers/cadets to monitor parking spaces in malls etc to place the "sticker" as per the violations .. i have noticed that in most crowded areas the police do patrol around and warn guys who double park and stop on the road or park in handicap zones .. about the handicap parking i read somewhere that one needs to have the proper authorized handicap sticker on the car while parking in such spots to avoid being fined .. and do note Qatari's are not let off cos they are Qatari's .. even they are subject to all the fines implemented recently ..

life goes on ..

We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors; but they all have to learn to live in the same box.

ur right jdylan it is shameful, but the reason there doing this is mainly cause they know they wont get punished, qatries are very rearely given tickets.
