Why they behave like this?
Here is the incident.
last days, my work places folks decided to go to beach on a weekend. This was my first time to a beach in Qatar and i was a little excited too as i heard that beaches are clean and not so crowded.
we reached french caves (i am not sure but that's what they called it) and went straight into the water. i don't know swimming so i was sitting just in knee deep water and suddenly i saw a middle age person rushing towards me so i came out of water. I though he might need some help or so.
but the guy was very angry and he shouted at me.."do you think this is India or US? this is Qatar and get out of here before i report the police". i was not sure what he was saying or what i did that made him so angry so i asked him what the matter and he said he had a family there. i looked around and saw his land cruiser parked some 1/2 Km away and a lady with 2 kids.
well they were not in water and none of my office folks were near to him.
i asked him to cool down as i am rather new to this county and didn't want any trouble. i shouted my colleagues to come out of water and go for another place where nobody else can see them.
rest of the day went even free but it left a bad taste for me. We were all educated, well behaved people and were not meant to harm anybody and as far as i know nobody even tried to do so. They are all aware that they live in a Muslim country and respect the law and culture here but then why some people react in such a manner as if we are going to attack on them. The guy was almost like in some kind of hysteria and wanted us to go away from there and i am pretty sure he didn't own the place.
Before that... i had an impression that Guys here are very polite and respect others and this is part of the culture and back home when ever i used to call and my friends asked about the country and place i used to praised the place. So far the people i met in the office they are all good, well behaved and so polite and humble that even my Manager make me feel like a part of the family but then it turn out that not every body is nice here.
i am not making a general statement that all the people are good or all the people are bad but sure some people think that people who came from outside the country is spoiling it and in the process they don't spare anybody.
hope! they will have better judgement.
In the last, again i am saying that i am not trying to attack on any person, group or religion. just pointing out that some people act recklessly and just hope that they will understand it.
Welcome to qatar - now tell us how you get on at souq wakif ;)
weldome to doha, land of the idiots
verisimilitude .. thanks for a nice link and sharing the info. Appriciated.
drywood.. sorry to say but your comment is so amature that it will be disgracefully to make any further comment on it.

You (as in all of you) shouldn't talk, you don't know the man nor do you know his situation. So please stop talking behind his back, as I'm sure you wouldn't like people to talk about you online like this.(As you may know I can't stop you but I've done my part on informing you).
I guess he thought that you were Pissin', since you weren't swimming and you were sitting knee deep in the water. lol
You've had the imponderable joy of reading Cheezy's Comment :D

My English typography is not that eloquent as those English impersonators from other lands. I still have the tendency to type in my native typography . Yet in North America is common to use adoptive words in Latin, Greek in our own american English Language. If everything is related to food and cursing.......

true true..... you will be eaten by hummers and cruisers here...
you need to be a tiger inside an alto. otherwise, tough luck.
well... i just gave you advice based on 31 years of experience here... I too used to think the way you did ONCE... but any way... if you want to have the moral high ground... that's your call... but in that case, you should not allow someone's anger to eat you the way it's eatin ya right now...
If you don't believe me... ask Thalib... he's got 30+ years of experience too although he is only 25 years old :-)

verisimilitude.. there is no reason to be rude to somebody who is already rude and insecure.. as you gave the example of Dog.. sure you won't want to go to the level of the dog and bark back.
As for people who are asking for tit-for-tat. i already said.. i won't want to mess up with the police as i am not sure police will listen to him or us.. a guy with family is always at upper hand.
eno madthiya,,,, ille thumba jana thala thinthare, ! ;-)
salax.. i am not sure about the place.. as my friend drove me off and they infomed they are going to french caves.
hey hey... yen madithe :-D
I live pretty close to the beach, I can see from my terrace... you would be surprised how many people go to the beach even this late at night... you can see the lights of 4X4s...
next time you are flying in, just take a peep at the beach area and you'll see cars looking for secluded spots
The reason these guys are so in to their privacy being that they might have ladies who want to be out of eye sight of anyone else when they go in to the water...
So its kinda expected if its a secluded spot... you gotta keep a good distance... they've claimed the area...
They would accord the same privilege to other beach goers too... its kind of an unwritten protocol...
But still it doesn't warrant the guy shoutin at you... he could have been polite and asked you to move out...
Just givin ya the other guy's perspective...
there you go,, versi has summed it up for you....
and versi,,, hey!
lol legal.. guess u were in arms dealing since 1960.
big fan of GAME BOY huh?
From what I've read, he way went way over the line...
Here's a new lesson fer ya... when someone acts that way... that rude... you gotta give it back to him then and there... and you would be surprised how soon they back off... you know... barking dogs seldom bite
Some of them are so used to havin their way, they just think they can steam roll anyone... you gotta give some back
And BTW... when you go to the beach.. if it is a secluded spot, you are expected to be as far away as possible from anyone else in the area... not that hard considering how much beach front we have here and how few people go that far out...
You might have gone there bcos you want to be near the french caves... that man came there for some privacy...
The logical thing for him to do would have been to frown and then drive to some other area... but yeah well...
nobody has to manhandle anybody.. next time reason the person if you think you are not wrong. Just keeping silent would only make the other person see you as a somebody who can be messed around.
In 1960 they rob me, the guy got stone by me.
In 1970 they rob me, the guy got stab by me.
In 1980 they rob me, the guy got stuck with an arrow by me.
In 1990 they rob me, the guy got blast away by my shotgun.
In 2000 the same son of gun got away, saved by the armor jacket he was wearing, but my wallet was rig to blow up, when unfolded.
Is almost 2010 and they cant find him anymore...

Of course not, thalib, I'd make a grab for his gun and get my incredibly stupid head blown off!

thalib.. i am not crying here.. may be the topic title looks in that way.. and then who am i to teach somebody a lesson. As i said, here i am to share the experience and it takes me a lot to loose my cool and fight should be for a justified cause (for greater benefit).
otherwise somebody else would have writing here as how a group of expats manhandled a poor person and every person here would have painted me in red.
;-)
thanks buddy.. lession learned..:)
when you get robbed and you stand there like a chicken....and somebody asked you why dint you do anything?
please go ahead and tell them you were robbed for the first time...... thats why
Do you usually swim naked?
lol
PM.. talib.. cool it man.. don't argue among us. i am sure everybody is mature enough to understand what is right or wrong.
Just wanted to share my experience. i don't want to make it 300 post long trail. otherwise i could spiced it up by adding some religion, race thing, and watch the forum fry.
Oh, that's mature, thalib! Firehartin said that he is new to Qatar and this is his first time at the beach. He was being proper and prudent checking out a misunderstanding. We have assured him that, from what we have heard, he was not commiting an indiscretion. Armed with this information maybe he can carry our your aggressive and hostile response. But it shouldn't be a knee-jerk reaction to an unknown situation.

I have a question: Which are the most uncorrectable students you had dealt with in your professional career? lets say: Indus or Pakis.....
Just be-careful not to insult their arrogance.

if had it in you , you would have given that man at the beach a peace of your mind, than whining about like a baby in QL saying that somebody kicked you..
dont be a sisssy ,, you should have given that man what you actually felt and moved away,, that way you would not have complained.. you cant go about crying at every other person who taunts you or questions you, that man had his own justifications which is false in the genaral sense,, it was upto you to do your part of the explanation, what you get in QL here is fake pity for a nutless guy.
Mandilulur .. totally agreed with you.my mistake.. can't correct it now as no edit option.. but i must not categorised people.
between your 2 posts but assume now that you were being sarcastic. :-)

now, with the posts i am seeing here.. that's what i feel about the people here.. easy going people.
PM.. mate.. you got a cool head on your shoulder.
READ MY FIRST POST and then read my second... you will get what i actually meant....
I think it might be more accurate to say, "Why did HE act like this," rather than why did THEY. It was, after all, only one person and I too am clueless as to what he was all upset about.
Mandi
thalib01 .. just to share a lighter moment of pro acting..
a girl was checked in a hotel room and complained the manger that i nude man is there in front of her room.. the manager rushed in and found that nobody is there.. so he asked the girl.. where she find the nude man.. and the girl said.. put the chair on the table and stand on it and peek though the ventilation and you will find a nude man in the adjacent room bathroom.
If being a bachelor in this country is now unacceptable then they should pay a living wage that allows men to bring their families here. It is a public beach -- not the man's private beachfront property.
I didn't drink the kool-aid! -- PM
well then, it's clear the guy is a nut case, don't worry about people like that. What a looser!
you always will find some idiots here and there!
He sounds like a total prat, put it to the back of your mind and carry on enjoying your free time.
Perhaps he was not used to foreigners. He may have had a fight with his wife. He may have been there on a secret tryst. He may just be a moron..
Move on!
he is with his family,, and you are with a bunch of men.... in the seashore.
its a natural instinct for him to strike before the worst happens.
umm-salayum.. of course we were going to beach but we were not nude.. as i said we are aware of the culture and respect and we had appropriate cloths and as i said i don't know swimming so i was even full cloths on.. just i folded my jeans up to my knee and i was not wearing my shoes.. i am sure it's not offending to anyone at beach.
please don't assume obvious reasons to justify the self belief.
if i am at wrong end at doing or involved in something wrong then i will be the first person to admit and feel no shame in saying sorry.
Some idiots seem to have taken the "No bachelors" mentality to the public beaches now. You went above and beyond by asking your friends to go to a more secluded spot. Please try to forgive and forget this unpleasant experience.
I didn't drink the kool-aid! -- PM
yes.. you are correct.. i also felt like the guy was insecure.. but for what reason??
was he suspecting that in broad day light, in a muslim country we are going to attack to a mother of 2 children?
You don't get it, the poor bastard was checking out those Qatari whales underwater.....

we go to the beach often and never had a problem! Well it depends how you were "dressed" I guess, maybe that was just to much for the man to handle :)
Unless you were skinny-dipping (lol) just chalk it up to running into s rude idiot.

its just a "i too have nuts" syndrome, seen among insecure men.
