Woman ‘kills swan by taking selfie with it’

If they’re not putting themselves in danger (selfies killed more people than sharks in 2015), they’re putting someone, or something else in danger.

This time, the unfortunate something was a swan which was reportedly dragged up from a lake in Macedonia by a tourist and then apparently left to die on the beach.

The woman can be seen in pictures grabbing the unsuspecting swan’s wing and dragging it up onto the shoreline of Lake Ohrid. She then reportedly took a picture and abandoned the swan.

The swan ‘remained motionless after the encounter’, Macedonia Online reports.

A similar incident took place last month in Argentina. A Franciscan dolphin reportedly died after tourists pulled it out of the ocean to take pictures with it, though a photographer at the site refuted this claim.

What is it with people and selfies ? Are you a selfie addict ? If so, what drives you ?

@Humbles: very true, but we cant either underestimate the stupidity of people too for getting that special shot especially when people risk their own lives for getting a perfect selfie.

ratish, but we can't trust what media does to make extra buck by sensationalising any small news item. Agree with MM, no swan would die if played with for a few minutes.

But MM, you never know the way she would've handled the poor swan while pulling it out of water :)

Any bird or creature is able enough to adapt to such situations by nature .................. and that too on a soft sandy lake bed .........

Brit, Do you believe if a lady drags a swan by wing say for 1 Metre ? Media usually hides hundred major issues & highlights the minor single one ...... .............

MM: Eye witnesses said she dragged the bird by the wing and held it to take a selfie.. How can that be pre destined ?

By Molten Metal• 9 Mar 2016 09:32
Molten Metal

It's not a selfie that itself kills anybody ............ title is misleading ......... no body shot a bird ............... in this news piece ............

By Molten Metal• 9 Mar 2016 09:22
Molten Metal

Every thing is pre destined ......... .......... who will do what & where ........... bird may be sick before ......... consider their love for the creatures ........... nor everybody appreciates winged beauties ................... health of the remaining swans must be checked at the earliest ........ tourists must get involved into this campaign .......

acchabaccha: It's not the mobile, but people's obcession with selfies and sharing.. The sad thing is that even our political leaders are getting into it , believing that it will endear them to the public..

The mobile I carry is just a 99 riyal one which allows me to hear only the voice of my wife and (possibly) allows her to hear me! No selfies; no nothing.
