Women refused Obortion in Ireland, dies

BANGALORE/BELGAUM/ LONDON: A 31-year-old Indian dentist died recently in Ireland from complications following the hospital's refusal to conduct an abortion to save her life. Her death has triggered calls for a review of the Catholic nation's near complete ban on termination of pregnancy, even on medical grounds.

Karnataka-born Savita Halappanavar died on October 28, three days after she was admitted to the university hospital, Galaway, for treatment of a messy 17-week pregnancy that had left her in agony. But the doctors repeatedly rejected her pleas for an abortion, citing Ireland's orthodox ban, leading to a worsening of her condition even when it was clear that the baby could not be saved. Savita died of septicemia.

According to British newspapers, an Irish deputy , Patrick Nulty, said Halappanavar's death points at the "pressing and urgent need" for parliament to "show responsibility and legislate" , calling on his party to press for reforming the abortion law.

Well this same thing might happen to a close sick and pregnant relative of yours when she is visiting or passing by Ireland and then she and you would realize to late that they dont carry out this procedure out there so be thankful for being made aware about the same rather then grumbling every time "whats the connection to QL, whats the connection to Qatar, etc

two years back I donated blood to a Pakisatni gentleman's father through an appeal on QL as I m O negative... But his wife made such a scene in hospital that I m an Indian...But thanks to the Almighty uncle is doing great by health and keeps me in touch by his emails. i wonder if we made religions for us or religions made us...Such a big loss to husband and family by losing the young lady's life...RIP for her....

There is a major difference. In your example , it was personal choice

Same incident happened to a guy belong to a religion (not to mentioned). The patient needed blood transfusion to save his life..but he belong to a religion which doesn't allow that procedure. To make the story short.....he died at hospital with the consent of the family and religion ministry.

For me this is no mercy killing, same as posted above.

Sad loss of life. The poor woman suffered in pain. The case needs to be investigated and the law changed to ensure that it does not happen again..

It is indeed regrettable but it comes down the fact that clarity is required between medically required and lifestyle abortion. Surprised this happened in an Irish hospital, though

BG, if you don't want to be oopsed change your nationality to 'Qatari" in your profile. And, by the way, the choice you have for 'nationality' in the profile is limited to 'country names', whereas the nationality is an adjective. But, amateurs are like that: imperfect.

Unfortunately Ireland's laws are anti abortion. They claim it to be so because of Religion. There are, unfortunately, a few countries like this left on this planet.

Weirder and weirder... comments I mean. I like only Zachary Quinto as Spock.

It's really sad what happened. I have a friend who had to go through the ordeal of giving birth to a stillborn. The abortion date was set, but delivery happened naturally.

It didn't happen in Qatar, but it is relevant to humans and human lives; a non-human would probably not be able to empathize.

No, it's a typical thread having the ingredients to stir up shyte, and you know that very well!

The women in Qatar, okay. But who cares for the women in Ireland, and in the USA, and in Europe, and in Africa? Do you? Then you should have thousand threads everyday, because everyday one woman or another experiences something!
