not to mention very interesting perspectives! TFS SC for all the info..In Sha Allah,Will keep all this in mind when and if I ever get around to driving myself.

My husband keeps pestering me to go for it, but as of now I seriously lack the nerve and confidence given the amount of accidents and traffic violations I witness almost every time I step out.

@ FathimaH

I apologize in advance for the long read but this is an interesting topic for me lol

For men, having tunnel vision usually means that they can see well into the distance which helps them anticipate road conditions/changes resulting in less "highway accidents"....BUT....BUT.....that ALSO means that they don't notice what r known in defensive driving as "snipers"....cars suddenly coming into the way from turns, other lanes and intersections...so that's a major cause of men getting into accidents....what's funny is that the number one cause of accidents for men is statistically over confidence!!!!

Meanwhile ladies do have better peripheral vision like I said so they do not get into "sniper" type accidents but they themselves r considered common snipers because they assume that others can "see and notice" all the things they do, in turn it causes accidents.

There's one other MAJOR cause for women to have accident "and a common married couple fight hehehe". Ability to read coordinated. As hunters/gatherers, men were travelers, with tunnel vision and limited hearing ability, as such they learned to find their way thru coordinates and distant signs "sun, moon, stars". So, now a day Men establish direction by coordinates "N, S, E, W" while women were defenders of the living area, protectors of the household against animals, other humans, and so they only developed wider peripheral vision that can identify immediate danger, so women identified direction by sight only....this has lead to the ability of men to read maps better by it's coordinates while women would read maps by a single directions "north forward" and have to rotate the map as they drive along, and that's also why women like to drive with the GPS on and in driving mode "North Forward", while men generally turn it off or turn it into a map mode "True North"....with that in mind, women identify their way by physical signs, not coordinates and need to observe them more attentively, combine that with a slower reaction time and u got urself an accident.

Just did..and yes that maybe the case. But many ladies can and do then overcome any biological barriers by being specially attentive, focused and following regulations, just as their male counterparts, despite having the natural make up to do better, still manage to get into so many accidents and have a host of violations to their names!

I feel one of the reasons many women are determined to do better behind the wheel is due to the constant criticism and jokes aimed at them by the male species! It makes them hell bent on proving them wrong and does work then in their favor.

So it's not about the sex of the offender it's about the individual's own mindset, attitude and capabilities that makes him/her a nightmare unleashed on the roads!

Scientifically speaking "yes this has been proven" Men have tunnel vision which extends beyond what women see, but women have better peripheral vision and can almost see 180 degrees of vision as opposed to men who see about 145 degrees only. The reaction time of the average male is faster "about 0.05 seconds faster if i remember correctly” This automatically means that men "on average" do better on roads than women.

I also recall from sociology back in 2005ish “I dunno if it had changed since then” the worst drivers on the planet were statistically "Far East Asian Women"

That's just what I know.

I think women and men have different attitude to driving and this is related to how mature they are.

Why? Men get in more expensive accidents and therefore should be charged more.

Statistics show that women get in more accidents but they tend to be small fender benders, dings and dents. Men get in less but they tend to be much bigger, deadlier and write the car off. So according to insurance companies, women, even though they get in more accidents, pay less money and men pay more.
