Zubarah Fort

Happy Eid to all! It's vacation time in Qatar, and I have nothing to do. So I went to Drac's home at Zubarah. There is a tiny fort out there.

At the entrance we were stopped by tiny weeny Pathan who stood guard at the gate. He demanded 10 riyals to let us inside. Once inside we found that there is nothing much to see. I saw some pigeons but there was not a single bat to be seen.

From there we went towards the old abandoned Zubarah city. We parked the car by the road and walked towards the sea. There by the coast were thousands of birds, pelicans, cranes, seagulls and a lot of other migratory birds. We decided to take a few snaps.

As I went back to the car to fetch the camera, a guy in a thobe called us and informed us in Arabic that the place was "mamnoo" ie prohibited to General Public. What a pity, the place looked splendid for a few snaps, with the growth of natural mangroves along the shore. It was a fantastic place.

But sadly we had to leave the place without any pics.
Are there any good mangroves with a lot of birds in qatar which are open to public, please let me know?

Spicemom was once gulped down whole by Channa fish in Dukhan and then she used some spray and managed to get upchucked by the fish!

MD.. well it's a good job my flesh is welsh then:)

Dracula... those sharks must have incredibly good channa (?) fish costumes! What is a channa fish?

By edifis• 27 Sep 2009 21:16
edifis

Spicemom =1500Kg

Fish=200Kg

So if the Fish eats Spicemom

The weight of Fish= Wt of empty Fish+ Wt of Spicemom

Therefore Wt. of Fish= 1500+200= 1700Kg.

So u see, I was very close to the correct figure!

Oh the fish which dragged Spicemom! Was it at Dukhan?

10m long should be atleast 2000 Kg.

No sharks there!

Only Channa fish!

The predatory fish, known as Channa micropeltes in scientific circles, can grow to over 10m long and weighs as much as 200 kg.

The sea over there is not suitable for swimming. And it isn't allowed. If you want to swim go to Dukhan Beach.

Yes ofcourse, Take the Al Shamal Road and go straight for about 55 Kms. Then there is a left turn which will take you straight to Zubarah. But the Fort is not worth going for. Its the pristine beaches that are the major attraction.

Latitude : 25°58'37.11"N

Departure: 51° 2'43.56"E

Or copy & Paste the data below on your google earth search bar and press enter:

25 58.6185'N,51 2.726'E

and then trace the roads back to Doha.

I highly recommend a trip to the inland sea ... did it again this year and it was a blast - if you've got a 4x4 that's great or you can book with an agent like Black Pearl - they have the cars and camp all organised for you..

I'm going to buy some tents and camp out their later this year !!!

I have been to the fort several times and I was never charged and as a matter of the old gentlemen that lives up there gave me the keys and asked me to lock up afterwards.

I don't think we need to do anything in the name of God, he's a big boy and can take of himself.

You should knock twice in my coffin, bro!

Basement , grave no. 666!

Indeed, the place is "mamnoo" (prohibited to General Public) because they found many people dead in that area.

Bloodless and with two deep marks on the neck!

I wonder who is behind this? :)

Bloody Regards

Drac

You should bribe him for another 10 QR, maybe he would let you take some pictures.

I don't like those Brits, I don't like that accent, those clothing's, that food, I will not trust them with our children.
