Qatar crime rates below global levels

Qatar’s recorded crime rates are exceedingly low and robbery and motor vehicle theft rates are the lowest among Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the National Development Strategy (NDS) 2011-2016 has pointed out.

After reading some of the recent threads on justice and crime, I am suspicious. Is crime really this low or are the stats not representative?

Even as simple as not allowing the maid to have a day off in the week and locking them in the property whilst their owners oops meant employers are out for the day. I know people who do this

Qatar, like any society, is divided into multiple worlds, but in its case the divisions are more extreme. For wealth expats and Qataris, this country is safe--although domestic abuse is high here and traffic death rates are terrifying. My guess is that life as common labourer is another universe entirely in terms of the systematic abuse and crimes they suffer.

jjj75--and unpunished . . .

Managers' violation of labor laws are largely unreported, too.

suspect abuse of domestic helpers goes largely unreported

Well robbery and car theft cases are very rare here.

All I know is statistics can be real or made up so one should never let their guard down. Besides low crime doesn't mean no crime so best take the same precautions you take anywhere else.

had my first hand experience at city center. someone stole a pair of shoes at a sports store but they just settled it inside. It's not reported.

Somehow it's better this way so people will have high moral. Somehow it also doesn't show a true picture.

But you're not living in a worker camp (I assume).

The article clearly says "recorded" crime rates,i believe the rest is obvious! :)...anybody can put statistics together,we're just assuming that the statisitics tell the truth but who's to verify it?...personally,i think the motor vehicle theft bit is true as there doesn't seem to be a lot of that here, most of the "crime" that occurs here is large-scale white collar embezzelment & fraud but of course most of it goes unrecorded because for the most case, the people being robbed aren't aware of the fact that they're being robbed!!! & by the time they do realize, the crook has flown the coop so to speak!!!...

Crime is low in the Gulf - especially car crime. How many times have we seen cars parked with engines running and no one in sight..

Yes, 'reported' crime is low here, and generally it is safer than in most countries (except for driving). But I am guessing that a lot goes on in the worker camps that is not reported.

It says "recorded" crimes. Many are not "recorded"! You can always adjust statistics to your needs.
