Does Arab culture support showing more graphic images in public?

I started thinking about this because I've noticed over the years here how they will often cut out love scenes in movies, but they will leave (what I consider to be) horrific scenes of violence -- and that a lot of locals don't seem to have a problem letting their kids see films like this.

And certainly during the war in Gaza, I saw loads of very graphic pictures around on signs, etc. -- which was kind of disturbing to me because back in the States images like that would be considered too much.

Do you think this tendency is representative of Arab culture on the whole? Is it because for many Arabs violence has unfortunately become a fact of life?
Do you think we in the west are a little too 'soft' on showing violence, and would do better to more honestly show the effects of war/conflict (maybe that would make people less inclined to support wars we were involved in)?
Or is any show of violence gratuitous and simply pandering to people's emotions?

ribelas...thank you for expressing yourself well. Seems we are more on the same page as previously posted.

Kifah...as you grow up you will find the propaganda machine won't work as well on your mind as it did when you are the age you are right now.

Noms...your post isn't factual except for a very few comments. Its almost totally opinion..two very different things. Might want to learn the differences so that you don't make that mistake again.

And as far as your post said..that you didn't offend anyone..beg to differ with you..you did..but obviously didn't care.

Now...yes, as a westerner..I did appreciate Al Jazeera showing as much of Gaza as it did because the western news casts didn't. However...it showed it in a very skewed manner, definitely slanted towards anti Israel. Not that I blame them as what Israel did was so wrong on so many levels..but in the same situation, not everyone on the other side was innocent either. Hamas was hiding amongst the residents and subjecting them to attack simply by being there. Personally I consider that the worst form of cowardice. That is another subject however and I won't go into that on here.

SEE MY ANSWER IN "CAPS"

I started thinking about this because I've noticed over the years here how they will often cut out love scenes in movies "ITS NOT LOVE SCENES QATAR CENSORSHIP DEPT CUTS ' ITS PURE NUDITY THAT IS VERY COMMON IN WESTERN MOVIES ' ", but they will leave (what I consider to be) horrific scenes of violence -- and that a lot of locals don't seem to have a problem letting their kids see films like this. "WHEN WESTERN PEOPLE CAN PRODUCE A MOVIE WITH THAT BRUTAL VIOLENCE INCLUDING MANY CHILD CASTS ACTING IN THE SAME MOVIE, WHAT PROBLEM SHOULD A ARAB CHILD 'VIEWER' HAVE THEN" ?

And certainly during the war in Gaza, I saw loads of very graphic pictures around on signs, etc. "THANKS TO ALJAZEERA CHANNEL FOR BROADCASTING THE TRUTH WITH PUTTING THEIR LIFE IN DANGER WHILE CNN WAS COVERING THE GOLDEN GLOBES IN HOLLYWOOD & BBC WAS EXPLORING THE BUSINESS NEWS IN ASIA" -- which was kind of disturbing to me because back in the States images like that would be considered too much. "YEAH, IN STATES IMAGES WOULD BE CONSIDERED TOO MUCH BUT DOING IT IN REALITY MIGHT NOT"

Do you think this tendency is representative of Arab culture on the whole? Is it because for many Arabs violence has unfortunately become a fact of life? "ITS NOT ARAB VIOLENCE, IT’S THE WEST ALWAYS UPTO IT, NOT TO FORGET WHAT THE BUSH DID IN IRAQ WAR (EVEN WHEN U.N. OPPOSED IT) PUTTING U.S. INTO BILLIONS OF LOAN & PARTLY RUINING THE WORLD ECONOMY THAT ALL THE WORLD IS SUFFERING PRESENTLY, ALSO WHAT ISRAEL DID IN GHAZA, KILLING BRUTALLY THOUSAND, AND YOU CALL IT ARAB VIOLENCE??????"

Do you think we in the west are a little too 'soft' on showing violence, "SOFT ?? DON’T FORGET NEWYORK IS RATED AS TOP CRIMINAL CAPITAL, LONDON HAS MOST STABBING THAN ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, YOU CALL THAT SOFT, YEAH, MAYBE STILL SOFT FOR YOU" and would do better to more honestly show the effects of war/conflict (maybe that would make people less inclined to support wars we were involved in)? "ALL THE ARAB COUNTRIES WERE AGAINST THE GHAZA WAR, AND QATAR WAS AMONG THE MAJOR ACTION TAKER AGAINST THIS, SHAME ON ISRAEL, HONESTLY THE WAR HAS STILL NOT ENDED TOTALLY."

Or is any show of violence gratuitous and simply pandering to people's emotions? "AS MY BOLD ANSWER CLEARLY INDICATE, U.S. & ISRAEL DID IT, AND WE ONLY REVEALED THE TRUTH TO PEOPLE. YOU MAKE FAKE VIOLENT MOVIES TO BOOST YOUR FILM INDUSTRY INCOME AND HAVE NO PROBLEM RELEASING IT ALL OVER THE WORLD, WHY SHOULD THE ARABS HAVE PROBLEM REVEALING THE TRUTH OF VIOLENCE FOR THE SAKE OF ALERTING AND BRINGING KNOWLEDGE TO PEOPLE WHAT IS GOING BEHIND THE COVER PAGE. DO YOU KNOW, MAJORITY OF VISITORS TO ALJAZEERA SITE DURING THE GHAZA WAR WERE FROM THE U.S. ITSELF? THEY TOO WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH YOUR COUNTRY HIDE, MOREOVER, I STILL HAVE THE PRINTS OF 16 NEWSPAPERS AROUND THE GLOBE THAT APPRECIATED ALJAZEERA FOR REVEALING THE TURTH. THEREFORE, PLEASE, YOU BEING FROM U.S., NEVER SMOKE THE PIPE OF BEING SOFT ON SEEING VIOLENCE."

I aint offending any one, but wrote what is factual, and you probably dint consider before writing your post.

Scarlett.............I Totally agree with you & I don't have anything to say more then what you already said.

If i have to resume all the mentioned & my personal point of views I would say:

1- Violence is rejected from All &in all domains.starting from War ending in the movies.

2- Condemning a whole nation by blanket statements is completely ignorant.

3- the radical are the most vocal and visible and others take it to mean that their religion or country is the same...when for the majority of them, the radicals are the exception, NOT the rule.

4- The Media in all countries & I mean it. ALL the Countries not always shows all the sides of the story

5- We have to admit that violence exist & nothing can be solved by violence. violence will lead to violence.

to all , i didnt say that any party is stupid , i do respect all nations but wht i was saying is a truth that wht i have seen .

I guess I find it truly amusing that the first poster said only the Arabs show the truth. I was sitting laughing and shaking my head because I also know differently with how much I see and what is actually reported. Each nation does the same and hates to be shown in a bad light.

I DO respect others opinions, always have...but that has to go both ways...

ribelias..first of all, I never forget where I am from...second of all..I NEVER fall for anyone's propaganda. My parents raised me much wiser than that. What people do not realize is that its not just one country that has propaganda..its all of them. Everyone is exposed to it..its what you learn on your own to combat propaganda that makes one wise.

Condemning a whole nation by blanket statements is completely ignorant. That is my point of my above statements. Ummjake was trying to find something out and when others come on and say what they say..I find it truly sad that their mindsets are in such a bad area. Unfortunately...those are the people who make the most comments...Its like the radical Muslims and Christians...they are the most vocal and visible and others take it to mean that their religion or country is the same...when for the majority of them, the radicals are the exception, NOT the rule.

Kifah...nice to know that you are a product of your own propaganda...see, it DOES work!!

Westerners are not QUITE as stupid as you seem to think. Hopefully one day you will grow up and learn that.

First of All, there is nothing called arab culture. for sure there is is a lot of commun issues btw arab countires but in general the culture differs from country to another.

if we are talking about movies & sencored scences, what is sencored in GCC Countries may not be sencored in Lebanon or Egypt.

I totaly agree With you that Violence scences should be removed specially for -16 Movies. but the good thing that recently a conference was held here in Doha to solve those problems on the Media.

Finally, Kifah you are right in saying that the American media in general shows the side he wants from the story & not the true story, that's wrong & not fair but we have to admit that we still have a long way to go when it comes to human rights issues.

The GOOD THINK is the media in the Arab world shows the truth but in countries like yours they doesn't show that picture so they will keep you thinking that THEY came to Iraq to Publish the peace or they will showS Israel as an angel

So the media shows the truth in the Arab world and that’s what we want and u miss

,Violence ITS NOT A PART OF OUR Culture ,
