Is it OK to carry Mace with you?

Hello,
I've posted in the Working in Qatar forums and now I feel I have a doubt that I should be posting here.
I've read and been told a lot about females being sexually harrassed (or even raped!) in Qatar. I still haven't been there, I don't know the reality of it, but I'd like to *legally* get a self defense weapon, such as mace, to always carry on my bag when I live there (I entered Qatar Airways and I'm moving in December).
Do you think I will be in trouble if I do it?
Is Doha a dangerous place for females during daytime as well?

P.S.: I'm also thinking of the possibility of carrying pepper gas or a fake gun.
Remember you have to respect Country's laws we have a dress code here,
randiness is not part of Qatar. Some ppl are doing their best to bring

Compare to West, Doha is a very safe place specially for women,,, you will find yourself safe ... Rest is up to you how you dress, how you make you social network, this all depends on you. Being a woman it's good to be on safe side always.
Good thing about Doha is that it is more of a cosmopolitan city, you will find people from all over the world.

if you think it is...And your profile says you are from Qatar..So im gonna have a wild stab here and say you may be Qatari, and muslim..If you are , you are not really selling your Country and your own people to the rest of the World...Qatar has a bad enough reputation as it is.

I agree that the Gulf region is safer than many countries but it still happens...Even here as well..But here it gets more newspaper coverage than Doha.
And for Smoke to say we men "All want to grab booty when we get high" doesnt really reflect most mens attitude to ladies...Smoke might be a rampaging pervert, but most men are not !!

But just be ready for guys here will honk their horns at u or slow down their cars when ur walking somewhere and ask u if u need a lift, most of them are just shameless and harmless they cant take NO for an answer..the ladies here will give u countless examples of what the scene at the bar club is like.

Hey. Seems like I've talked to some of you before.
Of course I'm not silly. I've lived (and still do) in social blocks all my life and I learned to deal with these kinds of guys. Whenever one tries to touch me, I turn to him and diss him really loudly, so everyone knows it. And they just freeze. When I go home late at night, if some guy tries something with me, I yell so loud that the whole block hears it. And they run away. Fortunately, I have a great voice as a personal deffense.
But also, I know these guys. I've dealed with them all my life. And I also know to deal with guy comments here in Portugal. As a girl, I go through it every day, from kids to old men (last one's age was probably be around 80 y.o.). I usually ignore, but when it turns out offensive, I make sure everyone around notices it (shouting at them, telling them they should be ashamed, calling them pigs, etc).
But yet again, this is how I learned to deal with it in my country. I'm now going to the other side of the World, it may be a different reality even if females usually say men are all the same :P -with all my respect for the lads over here
I say its the shaking of the bum that attracts all the ladies to me, it has nothing to do with what i say >:)

hey, u dont need all that, just remember basic common sense when u go out. dont go anywhere alone late at nights, dont invited trouble by showing too much cleavage, learn kung fu, etc. On the whole i think doha isnt all that bad as it seems for ladies, its pretty safe for them during the day when most of the guys are sober.
