I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on what grade a lead engineer is in Qatar Energy or what the salary range would be for a Lead engineer. I would be an expat from uk with over 15 years experience.

Just for information purposes they came back with an offer of 29000 QAR as basic salary + Allowances. Which is just below my salary before tax in the UK. I think its too big of a move to relocate family for not enough gain. Can someone persuade me otherwise?

Ha! Ha! So you can call yourself half-white as you have lived almost half your life in the UK!

Just over a decade back, a private hospital in a ME country had hired several very professional doctors from the US. When they arrived. it so happened couple of them were black Americans. The Arab employers reduced their offer as the blacks were not considered to be "real" Americans! The entire group (both blacks & whites) resigned immediately and went back. As such, you may also get measured by the same yardstick even though you hold a British passport.

Since you are a westerner, the sky is the limit when it comes to salaries and perks when working in any Middle East country, Qatar included.

All over the ME the Arabs have an unwritten law: The White Man is the Right Man. They follow it blindly.

So go ahead and squeeze them as much as possible when you are attending the interview.
