My husband is getting a new job in Doha.. we already live here, and he is a teacher. His new offer will be 27k.. MUCH MORE than what he currently makes. I work and plan to stop for a while because I am pregnant. We have a house, and 2 cars, one fully paid, and other on loan. Our house rent is 5k, which is on old renting price, thank GOD.

Is 27k a good salary for a family and having just the husband working? This is the whole package plus yearly ticket to us and 5 kids, and school allowance, and health insurance.

ANYONE?

As an economist, I SAY DONT USE THE TEORITICAL FORMULA INCOME - EXPENSES = SAVINGS..

Use this formula instead.

INCOME - SAVINGS = EXPENSES

Do u get what this means??

Simply, from your income set aside your savings first, and then what is left, spend for your expenses.

If you need more economic analysis, just send me messages hehe!

Nope Ashwin, teachers do not make 27k.

And if someone is getting a huge raise, why would they wonder if it's a good salary?

And WHERE in the heck can a family of 7 live for 5k??

lol

way over my head.

He is a teacher on 27K, which she admits is way over what they have earned in the past, she has been here for how long?

Surely the fact he is earning heaps amount of money and they have lived here for whatever time, she should know the answer to her own question. As she said he is earning heaps more.

Is there any need to chew this over?

By anonymous• 27 Apr 2009 21:50

ashwind...What isssh thissssh? Question and Question portion?

hey girl, just try to analyze your own family spendings rather than asking others, some people here are right.

One's spendings depend on one's lifestyle and situation...

better do this yourself than answering ashwinds questions.

generally speaking, everyone should know about the word "BUDGET" and its not actually "MATH", my gosh!!!

i'll give you some points here...

INCOME

Salary

Bonus/Increment

Other income

less: EXPENSES

Money sent home (family)

Tithes (if you are Christian and you give it)

Basic Expenses

Housing incl. Water/Electricity

Petrol / Transportation

Telephone Expenses

Food / Groceries

Tuition Fees

Others/Misc

Credit Card charges

Loan payment

Clothes / Dress / Shoes

Baby Needs

Furnitures, Appliances

Others

Then, you'll come up with "NET SAVINGS".

Here is what i did for the first 3 months when i came here. I kept all the receipts of whatever i bought, and take note of what i spent without receipts, (type and compute in excel) in order for me to analyze what i have spent for EACH month.

So at least i know which are basic spendings (which you have no control over) and those which i can control over with.

Then after that analysis for 3 months (no need to continue collecting the receipts), then you will now be able to estimate how much you need to spend each month(and how much you'll be able to save).

Hope this help somehow... peace! (",)

I love dumb threads.

Sometimes they start when someone makes a dumb remark. Others start smart, but turn dumb (such as the free press thread).

Dumb threads are like serial killers. Just when you think they are dead, they rise, yet again, when someone elses makes another dumb remark.

Goludumdum, the problem is basically that there is no polite way to tell someone that *they already know the answer*.

Damn, this thread is confusing. But I'll agree with the others who said that if you live here already then you should easily be able to work out if his salary is enough. I'd start by doing a basic calculation along the lines of;

is his new salary more than my current salary plus his old salary

notfromhere,

Thank you for posting this in public!! I really appreciate it.

First of all, I have no idea who WhiteStar is, and probably is someone who is trying to blackmail me, I have no idea, and dont really care to bother who she is. Second of all, you dont know me, and you have no right to accuse me on anything. If you would like to accuse me, then try to search for evidences and defend yourself. Third of all, am I the only one who has a 4.5 months old? What's ur problem?? Ahh, and I went to see the post you talked about at the Latino thingy and cannot find it, so post in the link, can you??

Grow up, yourself and White Star!! :)notfromhere

Hi suzan, not sure why you seem so upset or why you felt the need to PM me regarding this. I will happily clarify in the public forum. That way if others are confused it might clear things up for them too.

I saw "WhiteStar's" other post in which she mentioned that she is now staying at home with her first child,a 4.5-month-old baby.

I had just seen your forum topic about stay at home moms, and that you'd like to meet them. Oh, and that you have a 4.5 month old baby.

So I was referring "WhiteStar" to you.

But alas... "WhiteStar" has now edited her other post.

Hmmm, I wonder why she would do that?

:-S

Either she has done her Maths.. but she is among these who need constant reassurance.."Don worry you are Correct.. ok.. Go ahead..you ll do fine"

Else she is expecting something like " What the HELL........... 27 K... baby you are rich... You can not only survive in tht but also Sponsor my luxuries..."

I agree with Gogudumdum n B2D..... Get a Life...

actually the question should have had been... is 6 Kids enough or more ll be better...

My answer NO... you need to be more responsible thn you are rt now....

I have to agree with goludumdum and baldrick, if you live here and already have a good idea of your budget what exactly is it you are looking for from your post? Only you would know if 27K is enough, if it is as much or more than what the two of you make now it will obviously be enough. If it is less than the two of you make now you should have a good idea of what you can save.

You're pregnant and have 5 kids?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't your post in the Latino thread say you just had your first baby, who is 4.5 months old?

Maybe you should contact suzan.

maybe someone has to teach her maths.

After living here and if she is still not able to know whether it is enough or not, then surely there is some problem. goldumdum has hit the right spot

By baldrick2dogs• 26 Apr 2009 18:49

Sorry, but I agree with goludumdum.

If you are already here and know how much you both earn, do the maths.

By suzan• 26 Apr 2009 18:42

goludumdum,

Maybe she doubts it about leaving or not her job? I am sorry, but you sounded rude, specially with the Math thingy. Why dont u just give her ur opinion????????????

WhiteStar,

I think the offer is excellent!! Take care of u and ur baby!!! if u feel later that there is a need for u to work, then u can eventually do it.

Good luckkkkkk!
