Administration position with Qatar Airways

Hi everyone,

I have a BA from a uni back home in Canada (graduated in 2011) and I have an interview with Qatar Airways to work as an admin/communications officer, but they have asked me if I have a salary requirement.

I'm looking to live pretty comfortably (otherwise I would not relocate, naturally). My friend who currently works in Qatar says I'd be looking at 12-15,000 gross salary tops (not including any allowances) - is this a realistic estimate?

And if so, would that be enough to live alone in a furnished 1-bedroom or studio apartment in a good location, eat/go out often enough, hire a driver (I don't have a license), gym membership etc, AND save up + pay off a small-ish school loan and debt?

...or am I being unrealistic here?

Thanks for your feedback, guys.

Administration position with which department also matters. Salary Structure isn't uniform in all departments in QR.

With the amount that you are being offered, and if you are planning to share your acco (lots of options available), you would definitely be able to live off the money. However, Im sure you are heading to QA to save something for yourself to take back to Canada? In that case it becomes a wee bit tight. If you get around 12k, you would be happy if you save 4-5k (1-1.2k CD$) .... This would be tight, IMHO ... Cheers :)

CG, here is the Cutting from the Current Salary Structure being offered to Grade 6 Employees...

than a grade 6, but you have only 1 year maybe a little more work experience so your expectation may be a bit high...

Also, as far as I am aware, anyone under a grade 7 have to stay in company accomodation, so you won't get a housing allowance.

But we can only speculate... send your requirements through and then negotiate on what they send back...

If you like send it to me in a Private message and I will have a look at it and give you a realistic idea of what it will cost to live here:-)

CG, It depends on your Life Style, As you mentioned, you don't drive, so you would have to hire a driver to pick & drop you back & forth from Work to your Accommodation, monthly would cost you around 1000 QAR, as Taxis are really expensive & there is no such public transport system as you are use to back home in Canada....

Qatar is getting expensive day by day.... The best option is to Negotiate your basic salary, if the person asks you about your expectation, answer him/her around 9k basic...

Wow- thanks for your feedback, guys!

FlyingAce: If the starting basic would be 7000 QAR, add that to 4000 QAR housing allowance, and you get 11,000 per month, no? That's close-ish to what my friend mentioned (around 12,000 per month).

Would that be reasonable for the sort of lifestyle I mentioned, or would I certainly have to worry about my budget and expenses at the end of each month?

I'm not looking for a lavish lifestyle, but being so far from home is tough enough as it is - I'd really rather not worry too much about money at the end of the day.

12000 QAR Basic won't be possible, i suppose you would be given Grade 6, & the starting basic salary for this particular grade is 7000 QAR, either you take company accommodation or 4000 QAR monthly house allowance.....

The Rest would be standard facilities like Unlimited ID50/90 Tickets for Self & 11 per year for your Family, 1 Annual Ticket Return Confirmed, Medical Insurance etc etc etc..

A room in a shared accomodation would cost you from 2000 to 2400 QR per month. Beer in mind that the rents are currently uprising.

Hiring a driver to pick you from/to work, will cost you more than 1200 QR per month. Apart from any other distinations.

Reasonable Gym menmbership would cost around 500 - 700 QR / month.

If you are looking to have a meal at an average restaurant such as Apple Bees / Chillis / Fridays ..etc then you will need 80 - 100 QR per person, unless you are sharing with someone else.
