PLEASE HELP RE: SALARY & ALLOWANCES GUIDE

DavidUK
By DavidUK

I have been offered a job in Doha with a basic salary of QAR20k per month and housing allowance of QAR12k per month but no educational allowances.

I will be moving there with my wife and three children (primary schooling). Is the above salary and allowance sufficient for a comfortable life? If not, can you please give me an idea of a reasonable package? I have 10 years of fincancial services industry experience.

What is the rent on a 4 or 5 bed house?

How much should I budget per month for schooling expenses per child?

Any comments or feedback would be much appreciated. Cheers.

The 11 000QR would be unfurnished, generally speaking. Many companies will give a furniture allowance, find out if that's in your contract.

Thank you all for your input and support. Much appreciated.

Do the rental properties usually come furnished or unfurnished, say for the QR11,000 price range?

Moving off the original subject. One of my children is special needs/learning difficulties. Would the (standard) schools take her? If so, which one and how much can I expect to pay?

....and one for my wife... will we be able to get satellite TV with SKY channels?

but wow 3 children in primary school and if that's all out of pocket...that would be an easy 90 000QR/year (or more) for any decent English School in Qatar. I would suggest you check out the Schools in the school database on QL and check out some of the prices. Remember there are cheaper schools, but they don't really cater to English Native speakers even though they follow a British curriculum. Good Luck.

Not a good offer.

Just to answer the cost of villas, a good 4 or 5 bedroom can be found for about 11 000QR, depends on the area more or less, but as long as you house hunt, you should be able to get a home for that price.

Hi,

I would def. ask for more. We have one child and his nursery costs are going to be around QR24,000 per year, which we have to pay ourselves. They only pay schooling from age 5 upwards, not at age 4 and from what I know, my company was only offering QR21,000 per year.

The good internationl schools charge around QR 40-60,000 per year for each child. Compass international is amongst the most expensive.

Its impt to get them to contribute towards the schooling, as it is very expensive, around £7-10K per year for each child.

... you will be fine. If not, more than half of your salary will need to go for schooling and you will be left with nothing at the end of the month.

Submit your proposal and the either response will help you to make your decision.

In my opinion you have been offered a good salary package.

I don't see how you can do it without the educational allowance, myself. Make that the main point, it's not asking too much.

Thank you Alumnar & ghazalz. I really appreciate your response.

Should I pursue a basic salary of at least QAR25k per month plus educational allowances? Or do you think this is asking for too much?

The company is waiting for my reply asap.

A small hire car (Mitsubishi Lancer) will set you back around QAR 2,000 a month.

QAR 40k per child per primary school year. At the moment you will be able to get a Villa with 3-4 bedrooms for around QAR 12k per month (UNFURNISHED), but that will soon change once the prices start shooting up again. If you tie yourself into a 2 year rental contract you should be fine. You will have to pay water, electricity, internet connection and a reasonable Satelite TV package from your own cash - we are talking about around QAR 1,500 to 2,000 per month.
