QAR 20,000 Salary - For Family - Adequate?

Hello,

I am offered a Monthly Base Salary of QAR 20,000 and Position is a Business Analyst (Manager) Role with over 9 years experience for a multi-national company with in Doha city.

We are a family with 2 children (1 school-age and 1 Infant)

Extra Package/Allowances:

Housing Allowance - 7,500 QAR rent + 300 QAR utility = Total 7,800 QAR is given on top of the above salary.

Education Allowance - Paid for ALL Kids at the cost of actual school fees (Max. 80,000 QAR capped / Year for both kids)

Medical Provided - for All Family

Annual Ticket - 1 Free Ticket for Whole Family

No Bonuses or Other Benefits

---

My question is:

1) Is this Salary of 20K QAR /month correct for this position?

2) Is the Housing+Utility Allowance of 7.8K QAR enough for a 3 Bed Room furnished apartment near Mesaimeer or Abu Hamour Area.

3) Is the salary enough for a family of 4... (me, wife, 1 school going child and 1 infant)?

How much can I expect to spend and save?

4) A breakdown of the monthly expenses, like Food, Transportation (Car), Utilities, expenses will be great

Thank you.. I need to make decision on the offer in next 1 week or so.

I would appreciate your help.

I would be careful about the free school for infant. I found out when I got here that it only starts when the hold is 3 years old at the start of school year. You may have to pay for nursery until he reaches 3

doha_guest - check the Classifieds section here on Qatar living to get an idea of apartment prices. I heard rents went up recently in Barwa City. Rent will be your biggest expense. The package you stated seems reasonable. Don't expect to save much though. Whether you should take it or not depends on where you're coming from and your personal circumstances.

Thank you all for a very useful info.

Does anyone know.. how much it costs (rent + utilities) for 3BR in Barwa City and the size of the apartment (sq.m. or sq.ft.)

Also, information on 2 BR will be great.

It's ok as per 9 years experience and its a good salary about 28000qr.

Ppl are living in only 8000qr overall with 3 children.

Say thanks to God and start ASAP without any hesitation.

You know oil and gas sector already set off many employees about 4500 and other Govt related company as well due to oil prices down globally, now a days infrastructure is better in shape vs oil and gas.

Due to no of schools increased this yr also fees schedule shall be soon revised as many ppl are leaving due to crisis and due to no of many seats available now in Qatar for children as around 30 plus schools came in this yr including Qatari based plus private.

Also accomodation rents suddenly down not like last month due to crisis.

Just see and evaluate Qatar Living living accomodation cost which I made it comparison already 10 to 15 percent down and many flats are still vacant since lj g tune in market.

So it's ideal condition for you to come in and start if you are not in oil sector.

May this will help you much :)

The most important think before someone could give you proper guidance is to get to know of your nationality. Western expats have a totally different lifestyle to those people from third world countries and as such their expenses are also different.

Its all subjective and relative. That's why you will get a variety of responses.

IMHO , you will save 8-12k per month

there are 3 bedrooms at QR7k per month range. Just don't be too fussy about everything. Unless you have 20 yrs relevant experience in this region. I think you can still manage to save substantially with that compensation if you live using common sense and not live like a billionaire. To put into perspective of your offer, a laborer working under the hot sun 6 days a week 12 hrs a day earns QR1k.

Hi, I can give some estimates to you. To be very honest, you do not save as much as you think you will. Cost of living is high but I personally think it is worth it for the experience. cost to rent a car, basic saloon type is min 1600 Qar per month, if you need suv type its nearer 3000 but you can buy a good suv for 70000 which if you sell for half what you pay costs 1000 per month inc insurance and servicing. rent varies greatly across the city,i would think your rent allowance is not enough. utiliesi costs depend on the accomodation, some places have aircon costs separate and some include with electricyt and water. cost of internet is high, at least 350 per month and more for tv to be included with good channels.you should expect to pay out seeveral deposits, 1 month rent in advance plus when you sign a lease you pay by cheques in most cases, providing a year up front. you have to pay 2000 deposit for kahramaa the electric andwater vendor and liquor licence 1000. food costs at supermarket are higher than uk i think. for 2 people i spend about 350 a week. alcohol at the liquor store isnt too pricey.between 170 and 250 for. crate and wine from 40 a bottle. you are allowed to spend up to xx amount based on salary. max allowance is 7000 per month. the schooling allowance sounds good. some companies only give 25000 per year per child which for nursey would cover it. medical is pricey and dental and sometimes insurance does not cover but it depends on your policy and limits.

to be honest, i am not sure the allowances are enough if you are looking to save lots but i hope this helps you to decide.
