I would love Qatar if I had my hand other people's pocket like they have their hands in my pocket because hard earned money has no meaning here.

haha well said..i wonder what the going rate for a 6ft strip of land in abu hamour is..pre-booking discounts?:-)
AlHamdulillah. Whilst I always do strive to be happy and content wherever I am, I find it much easier to be positive and at peace here in Qatar than I have ever been before. Sure there are the cons of living here just as there surely are all over the globe. But for me the blessings and conviniences I have in my life in Qatar far outweigh the downers.
And as I always say, if Mecca or Medina is not my final resting place on earth, I will be glad if Abu Hamour is!
lol in that case, 'bon iftar' boys..although one wonders how that works out for jackson in his particular corner
Lol Ryan. :)
Maybe it's Iftar in their corner of the world.
mr bean and mr jack aren't fasting from the looks of it
Not really. Just a drag to do a few more years.
lol thanks..much appreciated:-)
tb ,, Heheh :)
whatever makes you happy ,, just keep doing it
but watch your weight and sugar :O)
Everyone has a responsibility.. whether it would be for family, work or social.. Now, if these things are meet I would say you're really happy and If you say happiness is subjective then which one of these among you prioritize in order to be happy.
lol yup..for a country that won't give me a passport and to which i don't even matter..because it did give me the most carefree childhood, peaceful environs to grow up with my brothers in, friends to last me a lifetime and pretty much everything else i know..don't get me wrong, i've seen a lot of the world, its just that qatar has left the deepest mark..i will always love it regardless of whether it loves me back or not:-)
I am very happy here in Qatar, and I am very happy eating in Qatar as well. In fact that is when I am at my happiest ;)
tb ,, It was like
Are you happy eating in Qatar? Yes
Lol , Just kidding :)
Yes
RC ,, I know where you want you put the bullet right now,, lols :)
mohdata : Good luck with that…
You'd take a bullet for a country that won't give you a passport?
To remind you people the Q was
"Are you happy living in Qatar?"
good to see most people are for the most part content; as for me, i would take a bullet for qatar as gladly as i would for my own country. sure, its not perfect and i might be kicked out even though i consider it my adopted home; no problem, its given me many good times and nothing will change that
RyanCanuck: Cuz it’s not..
RyanCanuck :Cuz happiness is subjective.
For me it’s more than just a pay-cheque.
I have mixed feelings, but I thinking I'm enjoying my stay in Qatar. Very good company and very good boss but very very stupid, irritating and useless colleagues :/.....
Why did you put "it's not my country" at the beginning of that statement? Couldn't you have just written "I don't think it matters"?
On some accounts living here is much better than home (probably you have peace, no-corruption and jobs) if the above things are in place.
My agony is that it is forced on expats to be taken deliberately by locals even though the government has policies to support and respect expats who come to make their place heaven with knowledge and skills working unitedly by all nationalities.
Iamthexxx...no worries. Wish you all the best...:)
Marco, why wouldn't it matter?
Am I happy to be living in Qatar?
It’s not my country, so I don’t think it matters.
I can't really judge, cause am still new here, 5 months old, but You can make yourself happy wherever you go( that's me) Qatar is Ok, and the people making it a better place, nothing is perfect.
But at the end Home is the best.
HGL: wont have my company for long
Leaving anytime soon! :) may be another 2 weeks and will smell freedom and democracy!! very excited!
Iamthexxx...thanks for the company...:)
Liked it before not anymore!!!
negatives are outweighing the positives. Especially racism and slavery.
Personally it is the heavily wealthy locals who have made this place unacceptable for expats with absolute no involvement in many matters of country and enjoy the perks for no effort in life at all.
Given all the moaning and griping , I find this survey surprising..
Work culture I agree to some is hopeless and looks to be the baddest in the GCC region with absolute immaturity. Money is covering many aspects here for the country politically. But, in reality it is not found dancing in the market as posed in media with about half of the companies paying untimely effecting the routine of life for more than 70% expat population. We should not account only on the face of big giant companies who carry all the unwanted facilities of the low paid expats, some getting paid for a quarter of the efforts. The labour camps badly made are the most horrible in the region to my knowledge at high rents.
The survey is very much wrong with stupid figures.
RyanCanuck.. it is not just with me but with almost all Indians..only diff. is neither do I take it lightly nor do I feel shy talking about which others won't for obvious reasons.
That''s a good idea, they should be an indian for a day in Doha. It might teach some other nationalites how to treat their fellow man better. (However they would not be allowed into City Center on a Friday)
happy can measure from my habbit changes. now I like to have arabian bread, laban, and learn arabic language.
Sorry to hear you have bad experiences, HGL.
RyanCanuck...be an Indian for a day, you will know what it means.... even Indians would dump you for a non- Indian....:(
Qatar is good only for source of income of the expats but not for happiness & enjoyment.
I am now 10 years here in doha and I am happy.
although its strange to see somewhat positive comments about Qatar on QL im going to lay back and enjoy the moment
''thumbs up'' XD
Lols Ryan he is LP..........................:)
Thelonius makes it sound as though he's not a local and he's not an expat. I'm confused.
I am.
happygolucky, you find this place racist? I've always felt people in Qatar get on quite well despite their different backgrounds/beliefs.
Iam happy with thelonius surprising comments of his happiness
Nice place with some nice people and nice food (Machboos Laham/Dijaj) and nice nice things around.
Also, i am born here - isnt it nice ? :)
Nice place Qatar, except on the roads.
It is just ok... life is too slow and lacks quality with no trace of professionalism at work. What stands out though is the unfriendly demeanor of people from diff. parts of the world with a huge dash of racism and no good North Indian food..:)
However, everything is not that gloomy as the above gives me lot of time at hand to read, play sports and follow a couple of my hobbies which I am enjoying doing for last 4 years..:)
I'm with alex brod.. exactly! there's no place like home..
Its ok... although things to do in an evening is soooo limited
I am Extremely Happy....
Qatar has lots of Indian food, which is also a plus.
There's no place like home.
very content and happy to be here in Qatar.
Finacial stability and oppurtunities, security and peaceful envoirnment (compare to my home country) are the reasons.
Though there are few things which I don't like but that can be ignored.
multi-cultural place.
meeting all people from all walks of life.
forced to learn foreign language other than English.
and most of all..... interesting locals.
Some of us have a common thoughts.
Yes I agree some of the Locals are good and some are really bad. office ethics is really bad for some companies and some are lucky to have a professional coworkers and environment. Driving is really terrible.
people keep staying here for a reason to earn and save money and go if there's enough saving and good opportunity with other country.
Lastly, we always have a choice we just need to find the right time. in the meantime we tend to enjoy our stay in Qatar.
Iam Happy to live and work in Qatar, but Im Happier to live in Home country,, :)
LLR, you should focus more on the company culture and management styles. why..? because they are the one deciding the fate of their employees.. Honestly most of the companies here are not yet matured.. I hope you get my point.. Moreso, there is a difference between desires and needs.. needs is a must.. and most companies here fail to give..
Thelonius, are you an expatriate or a local?
Yes i am.. as long as i am with my Family.. i am happy...
Work culture is terrible, ur bosses if few nationalities are bullies.
They don't have work ethics. The only reason I stay at my job is to move from here by the end of nxt yr :)
Qatar is a place I began to like, financially its the best but there are few things which are lacking. For example the childcare facilities are next to nothing. I have had hard time sending my daughter to an after school facility as they don't have anything as such.
Kids have very few activities here..
All in all I can stay few more years but not longer than 5 I suppose..
Yes indeed I am happy living in Qatar, nice place to work. However, I'm no longer happy with the company I'm working with. I hate leaving this country next year but I have to, to seek better salary package....
yes Im happy to stay here. Only the problem is the cost of living. Now in qatar everything is expensive.
People in Qatar are very welcoming. Arabs in general are a very welcoming people (if I can generalize for a second).
What irritates me about Qatar is the state of driving here. I sometimes also worry that Qatar isn't the most stable of countries.
But overall, as a married, childless expat I give it a thumbs up. Single people and people with children might rate it otherwise.
Yes. It varies with person to person.
One person is not happy even if he has 80% of what he desires and the one is happy with 10%.
Some people are forced not to be happy like they did not get family visa or did not get paid or did not get any increase etc.
But collectively if we compare to other countries in MENA region I think Qatar has good salaries, dont have to be afraid of losing your JOb like in KSA and Kuwait etc
If i ain't,,, i won't stay ,,, But i'm enjoying the stay!!! Nothing bad with the country , only problem begun with some stupid peoples...
No, I feel trap.. the option I left is to leave the country..
Personally I'm not happy anymore.
Everything becomes expensive here while the salary remains the same. The employer is not giving release nor NOC. Given the chance I will move out of Qatar soon.
On the other hand my family and love once are here I'll stay till we both decide to move out.
Hagi and Ghazalz it is good to share some points what makes you happy here than living in other MENA region.
Very Good. TheLo. You are such an inspiration. :)
Respect for Thelonius' comment!
I'm happy to be a part of Qatar and Qatarliving :)
Woww that is soo romantic. :)
So far am enjoying my stay and am starting to love it :,even the hot weather.
