brunch at the Cigale : forget it...

ndglc
By ndglc

... unless you are as rich as Croesus ! We went there today and ordered fresh juices that were said to be included in the buffet and a bottle of water.
When we paid, we have been charged for QR 25 a juice as juices were included except lemon juice ( that was not mentioned by the waiter) and QR 40 for a 1L bottle of water !
As we were complaining, the responsible said there must have been a misunderstanding between us and the waiter.
Now we understand why La Cigale was the only Friday brunch that was not fully booked this morning...

No, no, either 115 for tea with all the cakes and patries and sandwiches or 40 for a cup of tea or coffee. And in truth the pastries can feed two so I'll share with you!

Just cracked open piggy bank. Can just about scrape together 115. When?

/General rule of buffets in 5 star hotels back home is inclusive of non-alcoholic drinks, some including tea or coffee - but the usual feeble / water-like tasting ones, not the real stuff. But, that's still a value added benefit, not found here.

Hey, eagle, what a great idea! Let's do a MMM at the Ritz! Crack that piggy bank open! Actually you can get just a cuppa tea or some coffee for about 40 QR. The whole "high tea" thing is about 115.

Do you ever go anywhere else then the Ritz.. Do you work there?

I have had bubbly Brunch at the Sheraton and Marriot, both are fine. Ramada is OK also but have to pay for the dreaded brew..:)

Yet to Try Intercon and Ritz..:)

Lovely. Then the Ritz it is for me... :0)

/errr yeah... from the same fella who just complained about parking charges at the City Centre. It's a matter of perception, you see... I suppose I could park myself at the Ritz for 8 hours at a stretch, for free parking too.

High tea sounds goody- Mandi!! When are we going with the gals?

eagle - Ritz will give you a doggie bag whatever day of the week you go, whatever time and regardless of the number of people there.

Mandilulur said "Went to tea at the Ritz with some friends and you bet we all took doggie bags home! They provide very pretty boxes for the extra cakes, etc. Saves you from feeling like a pig at the time and helps your hubby from feeling jealous later."

Yeah, Mandi.. was it high tea on a working day where volume of customers were low? Would make a difference. Also, other considerations ... Or do you go there that often that your face is your passport?

Vegas,

Indeed. No need for me to "be more" than I am.. I am me, take it or leave it.

A smart individual sends home every month that what he does not need.

It is the Dubai-effect. big car big boy... spend there 5 years, get screwed by economic circumstances, only to end up absconding like a coward, empty handed.

I do not have a car, as a basically work where I reside... so, what's the use of a car? To do groceries? Only that I guess, as I do not drink and drive. So, Limo's suit me just fine.

My ex, always ordered DOUBLE... and ate from each plate HALF.

That was funny and oh so true...

I agree about the buffet my 'the dude' friend, hence we rarely eat in the hotel for buffet because I only can eat a little at a time. Waste of riyal for me :o)

Ok Novita, you pay for a meal... eat half, take it home. It is fine by me, unless somebody does this when paying for a buffet... that's just wrong.

What is even worse is when people eat 75% of a plate and call the waiter to say that it tastes bad... believe you me, I have seen it many times.

Except in all you can eat buffet. In any restaurants if I pay for the food and I cant finish it off, I always take it home. You paying for the food why you have to be embarrased to take it home ?

Nono tallg. Taking doggy bags home from all-you-can-eat buffets is completely acceptable. Only they call them elephant bags!

Not to be taken seriously.

You must be kidding! Was somebody having a baby? or did you mean breastfeeding? I still have to see that happenning. In some countries however yelping and burping is part of showing how much you enjoyed the food!

Btw I almost threw up with the 'chicken sandwich' I got at the souq from the coffee beanery, yuk!

Most 5* hotel restaurants here will give you a doggy bag - they have bogs and boxes designed specifically for that reason. Doing it at an all-you-can eat brunch would be taking the p!ss though.

By tallg• 19 Jun 2009 15:01

Those prices sound pretty standard for a 5* hotel. What were you expecting?

As for the fruit juice issue, it sounds like they dealt with it well.

alas no, it was a group of guys, though I detest using grouping words like that 'mates' or 'pals' so I stuck to 'friends'...er anyway, straying away from that I guess the places I have travelled have been very 'formal' in their eating culture, even in Argentina (that is the furthest I have been) things were very subdued at the dinner table

surely not as bad as the table etiquette some people I went to the Souq with the other day indulged in....

bowel movements, childbirth, toilet habits? it was all in there.

i am not easily offended, nor did it turn my stomach, but there is a time and a place, surely!

so consider yourself lucky your friend only swiped some cakeys :-)

Skyview RULES.

Piano bar is filled with pretentious assholes that suffer from the typical 'penis-compensation syndrome'

Here are the signs:

-10-Dollar Suits,

-Watch bigger than the wrist,

- a big cigar (which I usually think is a sign of gay-desires)

- sipping on ONE Whiskey for 4 hours straight...

- A big car

although I agree they are pricey on some things (but reasonable on others). A cappuccino will run you about 25 riyal plus service charge :-( Still, I think it's nice for a treat.

Ow shit....

Doggy-bag in 5-stars hotels, that's NOT DONE.

Especially buffets, you just can't do that - not proper behavior.

And my friend even took some for home, ha ha ha, you should see the face of the waitress at my friend's 'doggy-bag' request, LOL

Maybe you should not go to a 5 stars hotel.... the 5 stars indicate higher expenses.

And what kind of water?

Evian? Perrier?

I can not imagine it was Masafi or Rayyan.
